Ok, so I'm a professional photographer, but never got into infrared photography before.
I just ordered a Light Craft Workshop R72 filter for my 17-40 f/4 USM attached to my Canon 7D and of course I've gone through various test shots doing custom white balance set to a tree or grass or anything green to just get the white tree effect. Well that doesn't work. Maybe the 7D has a high IR filter and that's why I can't seem to get the right exposure and basically I just blew 80 bucks for nothing (or at least until I get the Canon 1 D C ;) and I can have this converted to IR only).
I am doing the channel mixer thing that you see in every forum and I've played with the Hue/Saturation and Lightness and I can kinda get it, but nothing even remotely close to what I've seen off camera. (Basically everything red and the trees are obviously white).
After downloading the DNG Profiler from Adobe Labs I've also done the custom camera profile for EACH shot so that it's close to perfect for that color temperature and I still get pictures AFTER switching the camera profile having a lighter tint, orange sky and buildings, but the trees still are a strange color.
I've been thinking about buying a color checker passport just to save me a whole bunch of hassle since I assume that this will fix everything, but I'm not sure if that will solve everything. Of course it'll be convenient for everything else, but my main concern right now is IR photography because I love a new challenge.

My understanding is that with RAW files, there's a problem with some programs like Photoshop or Camera RAW not allowing the WB to be shifted properly for IR and that you need to use Canon's DPP for processing IR RAW images files.
When I was playing around with IR, I remember watching this video from LifePixel which explained the whole thing.

IR is much, much easier with a converted camera.
I've tried IR with my unconverted camera, and gave up. Purchased a converted 30D and am much happier now. |

FWIW, I had the same issue as the OP with Lightroom processing RAW files from my IR converted camera.
The conversion makes it much easier, but the problem posted by the OP is not caused by using the IR filter over the lens on an unconverted camera |
