My Proportion photo was of a mural painted on the side of a building that I spotted from the upper deck at Camden Yards.
After taking it I started finding more of them, seemingly at every turn. Here are three that I have polished up a bit, comments welcome please.
I suggest these murals painted on buildings (is there a better name?) might make a good challenge topic. But there is an issue with the rule about photos of another's artwork, so the wording of the challenge details would have to address that.
Does anyone else have pics of murals painted on buildings they'd like to share? |

I saw this on spring break in Venice Beach, California. Thought it was pretty cool, and for some reason I really like the old car and sign in the picture, gives it a real urban feel.

Jack- I like the car too, it sort of anchors the pic, let's you know the whole story, that it is a mural.
Rooster- Starry Night is a fav of mine also; one year I gave about a half dozen Starry Night tee shirts as Christmas presents.

Those are all good! I dont live in a big enough city to see art like that! The one thing I really liked when I got to go to san diego was the wall murals and signs!

isnt that sort of taking someone else's art as opposed to making it yourself? if its a nice grafitti, all the photographer really needs if good lighting and the picture is perfect... |

this type of challenge would create a LOT of violations of the artwork rule. The stary night with the car would be ok, but head on shots of just a drawing/painting are not legal. |

There are some great murals here in Stephenville. That would be a great challenge. I wouldn't be able to decide which is the best to use is the only problem.

Great capture Terry. The runner appears to be running from the character in the mural (who is reaching for him).

Terry and EL-ROI, I thought my murals were cool but you guys both topped me.
I can't think of a way to address getting past the artwork rule without kicking up controversy. We've got enough of that going on. Maybe not such a good idea for a challenge cuz it really would be about taking pictures of other people's art.
But I still like this kind of pics, anyone else have one to add here? |

I have one from last month I'll look for, I almost used it for the last "Where you live..." challenge.
You deal with the "artwork rule" by specifying in the "extra rules" section that the rule is not in effect for this challenge. It is not a question of copyright law or anything -- these photos would be legal for this (educational) purpose -- it's merely an artistic boundary we've drawn for ourselves, and can suspend if we want.
