There are many sculptures in many places - of all different kinds. The challenge is to capture an image of a sculpture in a creative way. I am not married to the Minimal rule set for this, but did want to keep the entries as close to the actual sculpture as possible. Perhaps relaxing the rotation, crop, and perspective correction parts of the rules would help accommodate the sometimes-difficult-for-photography placement of sculptures. |

A sculpture is someone else's art. I know it's not "rule set illegal" to photograph 3D art and have it consume the entire frame. But, I've always felt that some, or most, of the impact of a photo of a sculpture is directly related to the caliber of the sculpture. We should allow sculptures to be sculptures. This is a photography site. Let's not steal the sculptor's artistic effort. |

I was thinking about this as a challenge the other day and hesitated for just the reasons hahn23 suggests. But then I started looking for ways to show the sculpture within its context and remembered . Maybe if the title of the challenge was "Sculpture in Context", we could make this work. Should be plenty broad: sculptures outdoors, sculptures in museums, still lifes with small sculptures incorporated, people interacting with sculptures (where appropriate) etc. and need not be just a documentation of someone else's art. Just some thoughts. |

I tend to agree with Richard on this although i guess it could be said that it's just a matter of scale that seperates sculpture from architecture. |

Yes, I have to agree with Richard. I'm not a big fan of having a sculpture be the center of a attention in photographs. I have to admit unless the photograph is done really really well I usually score them down. I guess I score sculptures the same way others score babies and children ;) |
