Well I had the opportunity to shoot some local High School theater shots last night. If you have the time they can be found here //www.pbase.com/crabappl3/theater
I wouldn't mind some thoughts on them.
Thanks,

They look really like really good captures; you caught great moments and they are generally well exposed. The only thing I noticed, which is hard to control, is burnout on faces where the spots were really bright. On the Canon's, that can be sometimes addressed through linear conversion of RAW files which can recover a lot from blown highlights. I don't know about your Nikon, nor if you shot RAW (which is key to that technique).
But that's minor, and overall they're great shots. |

I usually shoot in RAW, but with the amount of shots I was shooting last night, I shot in jpg. I do agree, early on there were a lot of blown hightlights, but as I 'chimped', I adjusted my setting and got a much better exposure and higher amount of keepable shots.
Thanks for the kinds words,
-danny

hey danny, whats the name of the play?
All of them were good, I liked how you got some of the actors 3 different ways for the same scene (like guy in socks).....
I am going to be taking photos at my daughters middle school play next week.....so this was fun to view, thankyou for sharing.
Did you get all those pictures on 1 memory card?

There were 5 or 6 different plays, and I don't recall the names of them. My daughter was in one called 'Dinner for 8'. I shot in jpg fine mode on a 1 GB card, so I did manage to get all of them on one card.
Thanks for taking the time to look and comment. Good luck with your play shots next week.

Enjoyed your pictures. They turned out really well for the lighting situation. I can never get good pictures with this type of lighting, it is so frustrating for me. I like how yours turned out. |

Danny, I think most of the shots are great. The ones I have a problem with are the ones which have half a person or the people are off center of the frame and there is nothing interesting in the remainder of the frame. Those ones look more like a 'snapshot' while the others, with the spotlights and dark background are very professional. |
