Haha... thanks for the advice. I'm sure I say nutty things as well sometimes. I'll do my best to keep it to a minimum

Welcome, but the community would respectfully request that you keep your nutty sayings to a maximum.

Hi! Well, if that is the norm at DPC... Haha...

I'm sure MAK means this in a positive light, otherwise I'd take offense. ;-)

If you decide you don't like your camera body, I'll trade you for mine, straight up. I'll even pay your shipping!

I'm sure we all need to release our 'inner nutter' now and then, and this seems to be a good place for it

Welcome to DPC. It seems that you are off to a good start.
The side challenges are a good way to connect with people here, and to get a lot of feedback. Some great friendships have been made through the side challenges as well.
I had to stop entering them because my portfolio space here is almost full.
I like your images. They are not overpowering with color and contrast. They look "honest" which is nice to see.

Hey wow, awesome post.

Welcome to DPC, I think you'll learn a lot here if you approach it with that sort of enthuasiam, just be sure to not let a few bad scores get you down, remember that you're here to learn, and that winning will eventually happen if you learn enough.

Otherwise, the best advice is to vote as much as you can stand to, since that'll expose you to a huge number of photos, and make you think about them (commenting REALLY helps this process as well)... Don't worry if you think you aren't 'qualified' to vote or comment, in fact, you're the most perfect possible voter and most qualified to comment as well. Why do I say that? Because, you have fresh eyes - you see things in the way that only someone starting out can see thing - that's awesome, and if you simply comment on what you see, and how you feel about the photo, then you'll grow quickly here, and make some good friends along the way, no doubt.

Hi Cory!

Thanks heaps for the warm welcome and for the advice in regards to entering challenges myself and to voting/commenting on others'! I'll try my best and hopefully someone will correct my feedback if I making erroneous reviews of a picture. That way I'll learn even more :)

Thanks also for checking out my portfolio :)

It's hard to make errors if you just tell them what you see, and how you feel about it.

Don't worry about telling them how to fix it, or that it's even wrong - just tell them what you see, explore, and talk about it! :)

Cheers,
So hope you have a ton of fun!

There are no erroneous reviews. Any comment is a good comment.
Welcome, BTW.

Can't make that promise unfortunate :) but I would give your 'Surrendered' a 10 if the challenge was still on!

Hi Harvey! I will do my best in the commentary fields. At the moment I find it hard to describe what it is that I like in the images that inspire me, but I'm sure I will be able to put it into words once I get more experience. And if people here are like me, then I assume they will appreciates a "I really like your photo" comment, more than no comment at all :)

Very enjoyed by all who get them, no doubt. But don't forget the more valuable comment is "I'm sorry, but this just isn't working for me, for some reason the ______ seems to distract me" or whatever.

If you can tell people what it is you love, and what you don't love, then you'll progress quickly. The biggest trap that you can really fall into is trying to tell them how to fix it - don't worry about that too much, just tell them it doesn't work, and why (the best you can), and let them figure out how to fix it.

:)

I disagree. Actually, I often get PMs from people asking for further advice on the topic, when I proposed a way to avoid certain flaws in an image.
However, some people really don't want advice - just don't care if your comments aren't marked as helpful.
