Anybody have any experience with either of these?

neither but an abr 800 functions a bit like the first option you showed - and i've use it. Its a bit heavy but with a tripod or monopod - very usable.

Like Devinder, I have an ABR800. Looking at the specs, the ABR is likely loads more powerful (though admittedly I'm not super on the up and up about lux and footcandle measurements). It's likely a lot less cost wise as well, since those litepads aren't cheap, but they're also LCD so their power consumption would presumably be lower.

Strobist used those litepads in his most recent video for lighting (mostly for the video aspect, but IIRC he used them in one shot for light, as well) and I think I've seen some other folks do likewise. Typically, however, you see them predominantly in video applications.
Hurley uses a similar product from Kino called the Flo.
