I suspect that for the two models, one may simply be an updated version of the other. I notice one is listed as the "Monarch 5". If you look at Nikon's current binocular specs, they are now on "Monarch 7".

3, 5, and 7 are all currently manufactured as far as I can see.

I see only 2 different "Monarch" binocular designations on Nikon's website, binoculars designated "Monarch 7" and those designated simply "Monarch".

The link below goes to the binoculars I bought 2+ years ago. They are just right for my birding. I think my specific model has been discontinued. But, replaced by something very similar.

Things I like: The included case is very good. The neck strap is good. The rear element covers are good. The magnification is perfect for my birding. The amount of brightness is good. Dioptic adjustment is easy. Focusing is easy and smooth.

Things I don't like: The front element plastic covers are weak. (I removed them.) Slight chromatic aberration in very sunny lighting.

eta: The Monarch 7 offers ED glass, which is a technological improvement. "The hallmark of the MONARCH 7 is its optical system—a seamless carrier of light that utilizes Nikon’s premium ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass and proprietary lens and prism coatings. This heart of the MONARCH 7 not only pushes resolution and brightness to extreme levels, but also further enhances your viewing experience with an amazingly wide field of view, close-focus capability and comfortable eye relief."

There is a West Marine store in Winter Haven, and 4 around the Tampa Bay, if you would like to "hands on" a few pair to see how they feel and work. The marine binocs from there are pretty nice, and they also have the stabilized ones, handy for boating, and maybe priced well below the Nikon ones.

Re shooting photos with telescopes. That's a pretty techy adventure. I would be happy to loan you a "cat" type if you want to check that out. The 500 f8 would probably be easiest to use, or the 1,000 f11 would be good for tighter framed longer shots.
Wind shake, or any vibration at all makes a big difference when shooting with scopes. Another problem at longer distances is atmospheric interference, aka heat waves. The "cat" scope shots are not as sharp or contrasty as with a straight thru lens, and the straight thru scopes tend to have a lot of chromatic aberration/color fringing unless you want to spend an amount similar to a good 400mm camera lens. Focus is a trick as well, at those ranges. Mirror lock up, and focusing with live view and zoomed in seems to work best with the ones in my collection. They are pretty much best for static situations where you can set up a tripod and take time to get focused. Occasionally I use the 1,000 with my monopod in strong daylight for birding, and it works pretty good for close ups of bird heads.

I have both the 8X56 and 10X56 FL models, I also have the SLC 10X56. IMHO the FL handles glare and ghosting better than the SLC. The FLs were made to a standard that does not seem to exist today. For the night sky the SLC is not as soft as the FL near the field stop, but it is still soft. Neither show clear crisp stars near the field stop like like the SV in 10 or 12X50, but both show more on the night sky than the SV 10X50.

The FLs in 56 do come up for sale, however one as to keep a diligent eye out for one. If I were going to buy a 10X50 for the night sky and $$ were no object, well the WX 10X50 of course. However from a realistic point of view, and for use during the day/dawn/dusk I would get the SLC over the new Zeiss 10X54, (build quality is much better in the SLC than the HT) and I much prefer the view.

As a great all all rounder the Leica HD+ 10X50 is also an excellent glass that handles glare extremely well and is a high transmission glass, the best handling of the bunch by far.
