The expert editing rules are remarkably silent on the use of custom brushes. I did send a question to the SC a couple of days ago and while I await their response I was hopeful some of you could provide some clarity.

1. Are custom brushes permitted?

2. Must the brush be created by the photographer?

3. Must the brush be created during the challenge time period?

4. Would the above questions be answered any differently if the brush was being used on a mask as opposed to using it to create an object?

Hey Mark Im sure it would be similar as if you were adding a texture or flare or anything else to the image, as long as it wasnt the main focus of the image and only to enhance you should be fine. Unless Im not understanding the rules properly I would think this is the proper response :)

I think a custom brush falls under the same rules as general "painting" on your image. It is allowed as long as you made the content.

While my answer may not hold up in court (or in site council) I think the answers are

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. Both are treated the same
