Same here... and it most certainly would not be due to the fact that we agreed on things.
We disagreed on most things and went at it "hammer and tongs", but it truly was a great experience to deal with someone who told you the honest truth... too bad some did not deal well with that.

"First I'm wondering why this is being done in the kitchen, then I am thinking that kitchen looks familiar, then I think "Nice Tat!". :) Excellent use of the Gorillapod."
I liked reading this and getting Ken's reaction when I used his kitchen in his challenge. |

lots of subtle details to look after, nail polish, her almost visible expression. my top pick. though just a hair ahead of jagar. :) |

I thought this was a great comment.

Bright neon blue like St Elmo's fire reaching up to the clouds, through the clouds and beyond. Nobody knew it yet, but it was down this energy that 'they' would come. Tomorrow, they would come. |

If I look at the image purely as an abstract it does not really work for me but the fact that it has me baffled has created a weird interest so I guess well done, I think, maybe... |

Well observed. This challenge wasn't about screaming. | Duh! Thank you for pointing that out.
You are right it was not about screaming. I should have just said it is not beautiful to me.
But why do you care. I'm certain my statement was understood.

Oh, it was a kneejerk response. I certainly meant no harm. As far as why I care, it's because the photo meant something to me; I hated to see it casually dismissed for not shouting its beauty. Nick has a way of answering a challenge with a challenge. His photos require some time and thought. A toddler with a pacifier sharing a frame with cooped-up hens is quite a good photograph already. But Nick doesn't stop there. He's placed these in a beautifully balanced and graphic composition -- one that contributes to (and, in fact, is an integral part of) a story at the same time. This is quite an accomplishment. It's a photograph full of facts and fictions and contradictions and ironies and all sorts of other possibilities. It's documentary and it's poetry. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

This little exchange explores the essence of photo challenges and comments. For some, (and unfortunately for most) art and photo art and DPC is only about photographic "quality" and "beauty in the technical" nature of the shot- regardless of the soul of the shot- here its ironic, because the challenge was "beauty in the everyday," not beauty in the slick, studio lit, color popping, wow factor ridden masterpiece of modern photo realistic technology... And as much as one has every right to express an opinion in comments, the line must be held for the sake of "art" - whatever it is-as undefinable as it may be, and comments that marginalize such things must be rebuked.
