From what I've heard he's considered a "staunch religious conservative" -- he came in second in the last election. I wouldn't expect any "progressive" change, other than perhaps a more diligent application of the churchly duty to feed, house, and clothe the poor. Maybe he can wash a beggar's feet twice a year ... I suppose we can all pray he has a road to Damascus moment and brings the Church forward a few centuries ... |
You may be disappointed, but I don't mnd hearing "religious conservative". It's the application, however that is important and that Benedict failed at more than John Paul. I'm not Catholic so it isn't going to affect me much, but I always want to see my brothers and sisters in Christ living at peace.
You talk like the Roman Catholic church isn't already the largest institution in the world looking after the poor. |
