this guy is sneaking up on us.

in his strange, empty way he has created a style for himself. and after seeing a few pictures together, they become utterly compelling. the fact (or legend) that he is not looking through his viewfinder lends a stark spirituality to the experience. Whose eyes are we using when we look at these images?

DPC has been home to the likes of J. J. Beguin, Ed Clarke, Nick Hinch, Les Goodman, Aznym and more that I'm not thinking of right now, but truly there is no book of photographs I'd rather see than this guy's.

an excellent argument for the profundity of sheer happening.

He's got a style that's been growing on me over time. At first, they look like careless snapshots, but careless snapshots don't have a consistency of style like this. There is usually something more to the images that you see once you look closer. I'm glad Brian has not allowed himself to be driven away from DPC by the low votes. I need to take a lesson from him.

I'm a huge fan. And his comments rock as well.

Spot on Don. BTW, I think he stopped the from the hip shooting, legendary fact.

Can I add to your post?

He also has a knack for seeing where others do not.

If Ben hadn't added this one I would have. I'll add it again anyway.

Each time I see this thread title I start singing...

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

I think of Brian as a stealth photography. His work just sneaks up on you. His is a complicated aesthetic that defies "pretty", aiding in that sneakiness. I don't always get it, but it always makes me stop and study it. For that I thank you, Brian. Life is too fast, and you make me stop and appreciate the enormity of the tiniest things.

What a field day for the heat
Must be a thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say "Hooray for our side"

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
Step out of line, the Man comes and takes you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

--Words and music by Stephen Stills

(It's an easy song to cover, only two chords!)
