a long time ago, i worked with this cranky old guy who drank and smoked probably too much. he'd come into the office, chewing on aspirin and slugging back black coffee. he'd sit down at his desk and open the daily paper to the obits, scanning them intently. every day. when he was done, he'd sit back, take a hit of coffee and mutter, "oh, [crap]!" when i asked him what was the matter, he told me that since he didn't find his name, he had to go to work.
thanks to google alerts, an obituary for 'Skip Rowland' showed up in my email this morning...i guess i would be justified in taking the day off...

oh Skip -- I'm so sorry to hear of your passing! Thanks for letting us know!! Maybe we should through you a wake -- I hope you're Irish -- because those are the best kinds of wakes. :)
We'll miss you!! Rest in peace on your day off. :D |

| Forget about the photog, we've got gazillions of wonderful images to remember him by. Who is inheriting the equipment? That's what I want to know. |

Dear Skip. We'll miss him.
Amazingly, overnight, we managed to name a freeway exit for this hero,
and memorialized it with an overpass.
It has a lovely view.
