Here's a different idea....Processing challenge.

The site provides a RAW and/or a JPEG image (same image) which users download and process according to the Advanced ruleset. The images are then uploaded and voted on in the normal fashion. The best processing of that image wins.

Each entrant gets to choose the crop, rotation, processing etc and it will allow users to compare their processing of the same image to other users.

I've always been curious what other, better editors would do with my Raw images, and this would accomplish the same educational exercise.

I like it better as a side challenge, I think, as otherwise it's a one-shot deal. Plus everyone just whines about challenges these days, so a side challenge would be more fun.

Some of them would add Godzilla to the scene.

all editors do different stuff they don't necessity do it better. I use lightroom, is it better than aperture or dpp or any other? no. its different, it has a different workflow.

editing is all about getting the final product as easily as possible. I could use Photoshop for all my editing but it would take me forever to get the same output out of say Portrait Professional.

this (side) challenge is good because it shows how others envision the final result of the same base image and for those that like the way one processed it, they can learn the steps to get there if they choose.

I wish, but he's on sabbatical.

Mike, I hear you. Sometimes I know what I'm going for but more often than not I start playing with crops and sliders and it takes on a life of its own. It would be really interesting to see what other people see in photos that aren't their own, and then the road they took to get there. Provided the original Raw file is interesting enough I'd imagine it would be a really interesting experiment.

I think it would be more interesting as a challenge because it would be good to get some scored in there too rather than just comments.

They could demonstrate why less processing is better.

It's also a poor idea simply because having to vote on 75+ iterations of the exact same image would get to be a chore REAL fast...
