so yesterday afternoon i bought a portable softbox from adorama, i need it for a photoshoot next tuesday. for some reason i chose free 5-7 day shipping.

i just checked to see when when the expected delivery date was and it says the package is on my doorstep.

that's amazing.

glad i didn't pay the $20 or so for overnight shipping...

Given hyour location, I'm not surprised. It's a very short trip, and if they used UPS, I would bet that it is within the 1-day delivery region for standard ground shipments. I regularly ship between Milwaukee and Indianapolis, for istance, and usually that's two days. Chicago is almost always one day, although they don't guarantee it of course.

In my experience they don't do that, certainly not as a matter of policy. I get a LOT of fast shipping from NYC environs; if I order from B&H in the morning it has come the next afternoon...

you are probably right however i have on occasion watched tracking on a package where it sat at one location for days...

not sure the reason behind it.

I think it may be a question of priority packages get on the truck first and if there's room, in go others? What do I know?

I have had issues with UPS in the past and from what I've learned from service reps, once UPS receives a package from the shipper, they will move it from facility to facility on the first available vehicle heading in the general direction of the final destination.

It may sit in a warehouse only because there was no truck, plane etc heading towards you for a day or two. If you bought expedited shipping then they will route a truck to get your package moving sooner.

So if there was a priority package going to a location near you and your package happened to come into the facility at the same time, they would if there was room, add your package to that truck.
