So I am pretty sure I saw in this forum a while back someone had posted a DIY remedy for tightening the zoom on the Canon 24-105 F4L lens so that it doesn't inadvertently zoom in when you point the lens downward. I can't find this post in a search so I am hoping someone will speak up.

My copy of this lens has done this drifting from day one (not sure if it has gotten worse over time) and it really hasn't bothered me that much in the past. However, I recently practiced doing event shooting with the camera in one hand and an off-shoe speedlight held up high in the other (on a sling). This is a nice mobile method for getting your light source away from the camera, but one handed shooting is hard enough without having a zoom that moves every time your camera is tilted downward!

So for the above reason I would really like to take care of this drift issue if a I can. Anybody?

Thanks! -B

I have the drifting zoom issue on a 15-85 EFS. I peeled the cover off as described and see three screws at the outside face of the barrel that are always visible, and two that only show up during zoom rotation. Assume it is those two that need a nudge. But they look like they have locktite on them and will not budge. What's next?

my Canon 28-135mm does the same thing! Drives me insane. I even sent it into Canon. They cleaned it and sent it back stating it was in perfect condition - yet it still creeps.
I'm to the point of considering selling it and finding another comparable lens from another manufacturer, but not sure what that would be.

pretty drastic when for $7 you can fix it with these

happens with all bug extending zooms unless like the bigmas they have a lock button. they need to zoom smooth and easily so when gravity is added in they creep all manufacturers will do it
