Has anyone got an idea of how many of us enter into almost every challenge, or pick-and-choose, etc.? I'm only going for my fourth (hopefully), and it's hard! But I love it too much to skip one if I can help it. |

Including Porportion and Abstract I have submitted to all 16 possible challenges that I could have enetered (membership, etc.) and I try to enter it unless there is abosolutely no way that i can (the lack oftime or subject).

I try to enter at least one of the two weekly challenges unless I don`t have time.

I only enter if I have a good ideea, and a shot I feel good about. Whenever I don't I prefere to skip than to enter a bad shot or one that I feel doesn't fit. |

I have only entered about a quarter of the challenges I have been eligible for. If I can't come up with a good idea for a challenge that I think will be unique and I can do well with, I don't enter anything. After going through and voting on the ~300 submissions for Proportion, I really wish more people would do the same. It seemed like a disproportionate (ha!) number of them did not meet the challenge and were entered just for the sake of entering something. |

I had origianally thought that I was going to enter EVERY challenge I was eligible could, even if the pic was bad. I do learn every time I enter so my reasoning was that even if it was a bad pic, i could still learn from entering it. But my entry for the proportion challenge was so bad, I wish I would have never entered it. I knew it was bad when i posted it, but now i regret that it is going to be on my "permenant record" so next time my shot completely stinks, i am just going to skip. At least I say that now... entering is addictive. Not entering a challenge might be like trying to put down the crack pipe. (no offense to all the crack smokers on this site)

I think I have only missed one or two since I started entering in December. That's why I have a lot of 4's :-) but I don't care. It's the challenge - thinking of what to shoot, being always on the look out for what to shoot etc. - that I find refreshing and frustrating :-(. |

Very good point, fox25guy . . . . . . and I have been told I have a very addictive personality! And I also know that some shots submitted are annoying . . . .they just don't seem like an honest attempt. I hope I can find a good balance. If I wait til I have a "10" to enter, I may never enter again . . . . but if I feel an image has an impact for me, then I want to be able to submit it knowing that it is certainly not perfect, but a learning experience. I adore some of other people's "5's", perhaps because I am not a good enough photographer to even know it's not perfect!! LOL! |

I guess flip89 summed it up best (and much less wordy than me!) |

I don't participate in a lot of challenges because of time limitations (work during daylight without any real photography opportunities and busy weekends). The last four months I only participated in 6 challenges. :(
Fortunately I like the voting as well (nighttime activity, it should be sex but I prefer DPC (okay, okay I don't have a girlfriend so be glad it's DPC)) ;).
Because I vote on almost every challenge the balance between votes cast and received pretty much says it all:
Votes Cast: 20619
Votes Received: 8451
I wish I had time and ideas for every challenge.

I usually only enter Member challenges. The task of voting on 300+ images for the general challenges is almost too daunting. However, if it sounds fun, I'll enter. Also, I used to be much more creative with challenges like putting fish heads in bowls of milk and stuff, but I've been so busy these last few months, I pretty much shoot what I can these days. I have spent considerable time on the Rust challenge, though, so watch out! (Actually, I expect to see many, many excellent shots in the rust challenge).

dsidwell, I just peeked at your Profile . . . . what a track record!!! Beautiful. I just realized when you brought it up, that I usually have to go with what is around me and just hope to get a fresh perspective on it or something. Reading some of the tutorials, it amazes me how those like you are so knowledgeable and creative in "setting up" shots, also. Someday . . . . . . I hope |

I try to take photos for every challenge, but I don't always enter. Sadly, I wait til last minute a lot, and then have to pick my best photo of the week (that meets the challenge) to enter. Maybe I should hold off, but I love the critiques! So, I sometimes enter just to get pointers on what I can do better!!!
I am having trouble with rust though. You'd think I can find something rusty, but I can't. I am baffled. When I lived in FL, there was rust everywhere!!!

I only enter a challenge when I know I have a blue ribbon photo. If only the voters would realize that. :)

That's been pretty much my plan too ... I think I've missed maybe ten challenges in two years. |

when I first signed up I tried to do every challenge, then when they started the paid membership, I tried to do both the open and members challenges, it was hard to do, so now I pretty much pick and choose which ones I enter. I did not participate in the last few challenges due to photographers lock....just didnt have any ideas.

And this week you can't even re-use an idea you've had before ... :( |

I enter less challenges than I'd like to but more challenges than I should.
Okay that sounds odd. I'll explain. I would like to enter every challenge, but often can't find the time or inspiration to shoot for a particular challenge. On the other hand, there are some challenges that I feel I should enter and land up entering photos that aren't good enough because if I don't enter I feel I've let myself down.
I'm trying to learn some self-control though. Lately I've convinced myself not to enter when I've been unhappy with my pictures. But I still need to put more effort into finding the inspiration - I can learn from taking pictures I don't enter too.

I took considerable time for the Abstract challenge, too: 5.3! It's about your turn, isn't it?

I have entered one challenge in the last year. :( I used to try every challenge, then became manager of the pet store I work at. Now, I'm lucky if I get to vote on the challenges. However, I am happy to say, I did enter rust, and i'm pretty proud of my submission. I like it. |
