California Secretary Of State Bans Electronic Voting

this is a great start especially considering its california. hopefully the other states will realize this is one case where its defenetly NOT better to go electronic.

I agree... A system like this will needs a ton of testing and security checks first, and even then there's too much room for hackers and fraud I think. I wouldn't want to use one, even tho I generally support "high tech" solutions.

with either the electronic or manual method of voting, there will be problems, remember the hanging chad problems and the recounts Floridia had....
both systems are easy targets for vote changing and fraudulent votes, i think the term "hacker" is going to scare a lot more people into wanting to go back to the old way with the old problems.

I have used the electronic method of voting and after the first few minutes I got the hang of it and it worked well

well maybe if the electronic version printed out a paper recept w/ the date. 2 copies, 1 for the voter and 1 for the system for a paper trail.

in todays day in age there is NO WAY to gaurantee security on a system like this. hackers are often smarter than the designers..

Yeah them old hackers ruin it for all of us!
I would love to sit at home and vote over the intertnet rather than drive 30 minutes to the nearest place to vote, spend more money on gas, stand in line, wait my turn, spend maybe all of 5 minutes to read through things and pick correct choice, ect.......

Oh well....life goes on,
And the thing is its not just hackers that are smart enough to beat the system.....

Amen! It's a pity this isn't doable. But it's understandable that it isn't. Can you imagine the madness that would have ensued had online voting been a reality in the Bush/Gore election? Well, then again, Gore did invent the internet... didn't he?
