I just checked, and it looks like Oliver will soon post his 500th challenge entry! h2 has produced so many great images for DPC, and he's a good guy too. He can shoot just about anything well, yet I think he often has a recognizable impressive style.

Let's do a challenge in honor of Oliver Hoffman!

Advanced rules please.

Great idea Brent! I was flattered when one of my challenge entries was mistaken for one of Oliver's. I don't know if I could create another one like that but I'm up for trying!

That would be a great challenge Brent. Oliver is one of my favorite photographers on DPC. He produces great photos and has always been willing to help with advice or insight into how he achieves his results.

Sorry. Double post.

That would be a great challenge Brent. Oliver is one of my favorite photographers on DPC. He produces great photos and has always been willing to help with advice or insight into how he achieves his results.

I think you guys are giving him incentive to win his own challenge. :P

I take that as a compliment to my matchless style ;)

And of course I'd comment on each entry.

I like these in the style of and Oliver has a great distinctive style and has a great understanding of using studio lighting of anyone on the site.

I enjoy the 'in the style of' challenges more than any other, it gives you a chance to really explore someone's portfolio. Very often it offers more opportunities for variety than might some of our narrower challenges. I think the fun comes from trying to merge your own style with theirs making a clear articulation between the two.

I've always been impressed in how pristine Oliver's images are, with their characteristic standout clarity. Not an easy thing to achieve.

Since everybody seems to be digging for old "In the style of..." threads just to get this one off the front page, I feel it isn't inappropriate when I pronounce upon this myself.
I'd really like to see this challenge happen, especially when there was an "In the style of skewsme" challenge at the same time or at least together in a short timeframe.
Heck, this is dpchallenge, not dp-don't-step-out-of-your-comfort-zone. You'll never see me oppose to challenge topics like this, I take part in most of them and even made a 6th in the "bspurgeon" challenge (faring better then he himself), which was hard, since his style is contradictional to mine.

On a side note: It might also be interesting to compare average votes and number of comments afterwards; my theory is, if my style was mainstream (=meaningless, but well received by the masses) - and I doubt that - the average vote should be higher; if skewsmes style was - and I don't arrogate the right to evaluate that - artistic (=meaningful, emotion-driven) (I don't arrogate the right to evaluate that) the number of comments should be significantly higher.

On another side note: we had the "H" challenge, let's multiply the fun with "h2" (or, correctly spelled "h²") :)

I'd be up for this one. I like all the 'In the style of....' challenges and there is a strong consistent style with this one.

Sweet! And obviously a skewsme challenge deserves a spotlight too (whether you like it or not, ha ha!). Let's do them both. And the idea that has been floated about doing them concurrently or in close succession sound great :)

maybe I'll even drop something in milk for this challenge.

btw, Oliver, I saw some of the logos you designed. great work.

dropping sth in milk is not really my specialty, but it would be worth a try. After all it might be you like it.
Thanks for the compliment.
