Out of curiosity, can anyone ask for validation of an image after the challenge is over?
Just had a request for validation on my signs entry.
I know the top five need to provide their originals at rollover, but who requests for validation for last place after the challenge is complete? Just seems odd to me. |

is there a difference between someone requesting validation, and admin requesting it? in terms of what the request looks like?
Im asking because I know admin sometimes will randomly ask an entry for validation post challenge. It may look the same as a voter requesting it, but it's probably just site admin doing rounds. |

It wasn't me.
Any member can request a validation of any image after the challenge is complete. That doesn't mean the suspect image will be reviewed. I think it takes more than one, or maybe more than two SC members to agree that something suspicious should be checked out .... before the validation process is put into motion.
My understanding is that random image validations are not conducted.
Not sure about any of this, but over the years - this is my understanding. The SC keeps the exact rules and procedures close to the vest, for obvious reasons. |

I'd be eyeballing the next to last place finisher, who may be coveting the brown ribbon... ;-) |

I know you know it's a waste of resources to do so. Especially given the simplistic photo and editing involved. |

They might think it was shot outside the challenge dates for some reason... Or for that matter not be your own work... This would apply if they thought they had seen the work elsewhere, earlier. Just speculating, no reason to believe this is the case.
Jejeje: I just did a Google Images search and the closest thing is a shot from the Mars rover! Check this out!
I can't wait to see what's in the "location" field of that one :-)

I do recall a similar shot in a challenge within the last several years. I thought the similar shot belonged to bspurgeon, but I cannot find it in his portfolio.

I'm quite sure Venser wrote something in one of the forum threads about having this image and using it in the first available challenge despite its topic. Maybe that's the reason for this validation request, it almost looked like he had the image already. |

Could be a test of the exif editing capabilities someone mentioned? |

Perhaps you should have set your home location to "mars"
And of course martian standard time. |

ok, someone needs to calculate the date and time (in dpc standard time) on mars, to see how far off his date/time stamp was. :) |

It's complicated.
There's no allowance for time travel.
Still more complicated. But, the SC members are smarter than I am. SC relative to Venser.... I don't know.

i didn't vote that challenge. I think you nailed that image. I don't get the title but its good advice i suppose. Its totally off topic. I would've been a bit conflicted giving it a number so i m kinda glad i saw it after. |

If they can ask for a validation of this image... anything is possible in my books.
