Photo Within A Photo Challenge description:
Create a scene using another photograph; either printed or otherwise.
Stupid question: Does the photo within your photo also need to be taken during the submission dates (Jan. 14 through 20)? |

Stupid question part 2...
Do you need to have taken the photo that is within the photo? |

Nope...It is like asking if the model you took the photo of was conceived during the submission dates. ;) |

as long it is clearly identifiable as a photo I'd say no. otherwise it would be dnmc, anyway. |

I don't think those are stupid questions.
I'm wondering what "either printed or otherwise" means. Does that mean a photograph displayed on a monitor is good? Or is this about some sort of photoshop thing, similar to a diptych? |

Personally I interpret it to mean that a photo displayed on a screen is legal ΓΆ€” whether it's "good" or not will be up to the voters. It could also be a piece of film (slide or negative) or any other way to represent a "photograph" as far as I'm concerned.
But, I have no inside knowledge or insight ... |

An old challenge entry that would work for this one. Not printed, but otherwise. Printed, shown on a monitor, projected, they all should be fine IMHO. |

Sooo it is implied that the photo not with in the correct date time MUST appear as an actual photograph and not a part of the image, ie, ahh the photo can not be a background image that is not cleary defined as a seperate photograph... argh, I'm loosing what I'm trying to ask... NO composites via photoshop correct???? and DAMN |

Right -- the photo is a "prop" captured within the scene you are photographing. |

I am too lazy to dig them up but I know we have seen ribbon winners of people in a photo gallery looking at framed pictures, or people on the street walking past giant billboard photos, or people with a magazine cover over their faces where for a moment the image on the cover becomes their head. Foreground, background, as long as you catch some clever interaction between the image and the rest of the world, you should be fine. |

but i assume we can do whatever we want - both digitally and physically - to the photo that is used as a prop, the final prop just needs to be a physical photo of somekind in the composition before we snap the shutter to capture image for THIS challenge.
while i'm somewhat for open interpretation of challenge descriptions, i kinda wish there were some Extra Rules detailing these issues this time
oh, and i'm going with the plan that the prop photo need not be taken within the capture date limits for THIS challenge

I think it is better that it is not specified in an Extra Rule -- failure (in the minds of the voters) to meet the challenge description is not grounds for a DQ, while a "rules violation" would be. |
