the d800 that is.
booooooooooooooop.
didn't get a lens though (right now i have my 50mm to play around with till i get one). i really have no idea which one to get, maybe you guys can help.
1). Im going to be doing almost exclusively landscape stuff for the next half year (going to new zealand), so i definitely want a wide lens
2). i was looking at the 16-35mm, but this is a difficult lens to come by (the dude at Henry's said they could order it but it may not be here in time for early-mid feb, which is a must).
3). 24-70 f2.8 seems like the classic full frame zoom everyone loves, but it is out of my budget (im aiming for 1200ish or lower)
4). the 24-120 f4 seems like it sucks
5). mehhhhhhhhhh i dont knowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww |

I don't know, because it's nikon... but if you're doing landscape stuff, wouldn't you want something wider that 24? That's pretty boring...
Sell the d800, go canon, and get the 10-22. :) |

Yes it does, but being a fan of nice long exposures, i wont get this. the front element is so bulbous it doesn't except any filters, and i'll be moving to a cokin system i think for some nice strong nd's. |

I have both the 24-70mm, and the 17-35mm. Both are excellent lenses, but I ADORE the 17-35. It has actually become my walkabout lens. There is significant distortion on things that are close to the lens at the widest setting. Otherwise, it is just brilliant. |

yeah? it's not too wide for general purpose walking around stuff? |

Nah, 35mm is fine for walkaround on a FF. A lot of people used a 35mm lens as their prime lens on Leicas back in the day. I used my 35mm a LOT more than my 50mm on my Nikon F1 back then, too. I like walking around with the 16-35mm now, thought to be fair I also have the 24-105 so I have options. |

Now that you mention it, what's up with the scarcity of the Nikon wide angles right now?
Edit: I'd also ask, have you looked into the 20mm 2.8? Sweet lens. And light.

Actually, I would say give the 24-120 f4 a go. I've had it for a while now and although for sure it's not as good as the 24-70 it's not as expensive either. I am very, very happy with mine - it's way way better than I was expecting

from what I hear, the 24-85 f3.5 is about the same image quality as the 24-120, and in a smaller package for much less. I don't really want to blow a grand on a mediocre lens, where I can save up a little longer and wait for the 24-70. if I end up really needing a walk around zoom? I figure the 24-85 would be just as good in terms of image quality. anyone care to correct me?
here's my plan so far:
find the 16-35: always loved wide angle vistas and landscapes, so this is something I'll always use.
use this and my 50mm (amazing little lens) for general purpose
if I need some more zoom, grab a cheap little 70-300 Af G (non vr), from what I read is completely usable |

Just throwing in a thought...
Sigma makes a 12-24 for FF bodies that is supposed to be excellent. Downside is you'd need to get another walkaround lens to go along with it. |

Aden camera's got the 16-35 in stock, and for only a couple hundred more, with much better reviews, probably gonna go with this.
YEAH!
