What is lacking in ourselves that we need such a pathetic celebrity culture ? or maybe I'm just jealouse cause nobody would rip their panties off for me. |
you just haven't found the right group of street photography groupies...
Of course it is silly to think that knee-jerk reaction legislation would help. (I speak from some experience, in that here in the state of CT, the previous Governor, Jodi Rell, although a very nice woman, was the epitome of reactionary-knee jerk Governors.)
but I refuse to buy into the "there already are laws, we don't need anymore because they will never work so lets stop trying and have nihilist near-anarchy, etc" argument.
Decent, fair, thoughtful, researched changes in laws are necessary to "telegraph" where we want our society to eventually end up. |

I find it extremely frustrating that society creates legislation intended to protect folks from the consequences of their actions. I would wholeheartedly support a legislative philosophy of "you do the action, you are responsible for the consequences" - photographer crosses the road without looking for traffic and gets squished - photographer's fault (and yes, the photog's estate should pay damages to the driver that squished him).
As for celebrities - don't publicly engage in behavior you don't want to be made public. |

BAN ALL DSLR CAMERAS! It's the camera that did this.
Had the camera not been readily available, with large memory cards, this would not have happened at all.

Ban DSLR's and only criminals will take pictures! Instead we should have more telephoto lenses for everyone so photographers can protect themselves and keep their distance. |

It is easy to look at the government and ask for new law. I say: start with your own behavior. Don't buy any of these tabloids and the press don't find it interesting anymore to cross the street to shoot some celebrity.
But of course this is a fantasy. Newspapers are not selling anymore, but tabloids are even more popular. |

I don't know who buys them, but maybe someone can start a social campaign against tabloids - liken it to wearing fur, killing whales or buying blood diamonds. I would start one, but I just don't care that much. ;-) |

Funny, I thought that since they were covered up so much in government conspiracies, they figured that was all the coverings they needed, so personal coverings were redundant. |

Well, the books I read don't have images, still no need for paparazzi to take pictures of celebrities. |

In a few years the point will be moot. The newspapers and magazines are in a downward spiral as we get more and more of our information from the internent. As publishers succeed in getting copyright laws changed so that any image they find they can use for free, the photographers will soon no longer be able to afford cameras and will starve to death.
Thus a non-violent solution of what to do with the photographers. As the public loses their ability to read, they will only hear and see what mass media wants them to, so there will be not reason to rush to see anything. And we get get back to being energy cells for the system. |

I find this suggestion rather interesting.
I spent a good portion of my younger days going out and trying to rescue people who landed in difficult situations due to their own fault. However, you would not believe the howls of protests whenever a suggestion was made that daredevils etc be required to pay a fee if rescuers have to be deployed to save their butts.
I'm all for a pay for your own rescue in some situations, but I seem to be the minority on this one.

It's law in Colorado. SAR is included with the purchase of a hunting/fishing license and other permits, but if you're just out there, and screw up to the point of needing SAR, you will be billed - rightly so I figure. |

+ twelvety billion...and I'm a Canuck, so you know I really mean it.
ETA...+ another twelvety billion on SAR. Volunteers risking their asses to save people who are largely in need of their services due to serious asshattery on their part. Recently 4 people had to be rescued from the Gatineau Park. Why? One pair of people decided to go snowshoeing on a trail that was marked as closed due to the heavy snowfalls and cold we've had recently. They got lost, managed to summon help and two experienced outdoorsmen went out and spent the night with them to get a fire going etc. They all got rescued the following day.
I believe that now there is a hefty fine for locals who go venturing onto closed trails.

Why can't survival of the fittest be survival of the smartest? Why does the world have such bad taste?

No idea. IMHO the world is always looking for something to get stupid over and thanks to youtube, social media etc, the Justin Biebers of the world fit the bill quite nicely. Though tell that to any girl under 13 and watch out, she might beat you to death with her cellphone :-/ |

...and what would we use to gauge smarts.
Survival in nature is based on the fittest and not so much on smarts, and I would hazard a guess that the same principles might apply when dealing with nature.
