Do you suppose there is anything to these or are they just imaginary?

I put a curse on someone and their hair fell out. Then I gave up witchcraft. But seriously, is this a serious question?

I would say that the act of putting a hex or curse on someone is very real, but the outcome is imaginary.

I don't believe in anything supernatural.. It's all fakery, misinterpretation, or hallucinations - but since I know you hold other mythical beliefs, I don't see why you wouldn't believe in these as well.

Probably imaginary but that doesn't mean they don't work.

I'm South Asian so for me magic is part of the cultural lore. There are people who actively believe in it and do some serious crap with skulls and blood. I have heard some pretty interesting tales. Even if people don't believe in it the words to ward off bad luck/bad intentions are used universally. For example if someone puts up pictures of their baby on facebook the replies are OMG! cute baby concatenated with words of protection.

I liked this conversation. Why is it sinking?

David, are you feeling threatened or hexed or cursed in any way?

(i feel we should ask because there may be a serious thing behind it....David is lovely and sweet and i can't think anyone in any way would want to hex him but he might need some support if he has and he feels scared)

I believe in the power of hexes & spells. I don't understand them, but I believe they exist and that they work, at least some of the time.

There are such things as blessings and curses, and they result in the way we behave.

There's a formula, you need to work it out.

Oh yes and there's only one person who can bless and curse, we can't place them on anyone else!

As long as a person believes, then they are real.

Nah, anyone can bless and curse. Some do it better than others.

Consider the, admittedly loose, etymology of 'Grammar' - 'Grimoire'

Also, consider 'spell' - to put a spell on someone. To write. To make a 'play' about someone. To write a 'play'. To hex. To put words on them. In them.

Then consider how it was hundreds of years ago. To be 'spoken about', . To have 'gossip' about you.

I think it's clear how these things work and still work to this day.
