Chronicle - 7/10 you kind of new where each character was going to go, very stereotypical, the previews did a good job of not spoiling anything. I had no idea going in it would end up where it did.

Departures, a wonderful Japanese film, 15+ years in the making, on the subject of death. Absolutely fantastic film, alternately heart-wrenching and heart-warming. 9.5/10

The Adjustment Bureau
thought it was some kinda boring white-collar government conspiracy flick, but i was wrong!
you can say it is about religion, because that's what came to mind when i watched it.
but not the religion that we know of.
definately enjoyable for those who enjoyed films that involves mysterious higher forces (aliens, religions)

The Bourne Legacy - 5/10
I didn't like this much at all. A bit contrived, acting was not great and the ending, well it sucked. Just enough gratuitous violence to keep it from getting a big fat zero.

Dark Knight Rises - 6/10
Not the best one, IMO. Plot seemed to be an uncreative regurgitation of all the previous plots.

...maybe I'm just getting grumpy and harsh in my old age. ;-)

Les Misérables - 7/10

A well acted beautifully staged and shot rendition of a plays I really do not care for. I have seen it on stage a few times, and heard the music many, many times too many and I find the story soppy, the plot contrived, and the music catchy but vapid. In short I hate the subject matter, but it was so beautifully presented that it was...not horrible. In fact when Anne Hathaway was on screen, it was quite good.

+1 - An amazing film. And you don't need to know any Japanese at all.

Warrior 8 out of ten. the story is told really well, and it appealed to me.

The Hobbit - not sure how to rate it. Long. Beautiful scenery. Stupid deviation(s) from the book to allow cameo appearances of Galadrial, the White Wizard (blanking on his name). Dreadful re-use (or nearly identical re-use) of scenes from the LOTR movies - some additional creativity would have been nice. LOTR & Tolkein fans will enjoy it.

I liked it a lot too. Others have said it was a bit too long and maybe the opening scenes could have been shorter, but it went by pretty quickly for me. I saw it in 3D with high frame rate too- pretty cool!

I thought the hobbit was terrific, some of the cinematic necessities, and the fact there will be three movies made sime changes and inclusions necessary. One major change was that Azog, The goblin king who ws actually kiled at the battle of azanulbizar, has been changes to allow him to be the nemesis of Thorin throughout all three movies, and certainly to become an enemy at the battle of 5 armies.

The white council scenes and other additions are pretty true to the appendices of the Hobbit and close writings. All in all its as good a movie at the lotr movies, and the acting, bilbo and thorin, is quite good.

I found it a really good movie despite its small shortcommings incl story and CGI moments, its entertaining and not too long, worth the entry money... also saw skyfall and that was ok too... overall both enjoyable for different reasons. Hobbit is not a childrens movie unlike the book it will scare young kids and i look forward to the next two installments, Peter jackson is probably the only director who could have tackled these movies with the right amount of balance and imagination needed! :O)

Just saw a quietly terrifying, brilliantly done pic called Frozen. Well worth checking out, 9/10.

Deliverance - 8.5/10

Not seen it for years but was so impressed with how it was shot. Authentic scenes throughout - all stunts performed by its uninsured cast.

Direction is outstanding - the care taken to offer the right shot in each scene is commendable.

40 years old but my goodness - ahead of its time.

Agree with the 10/10 for Midnight in Paris. Loved it.

Last movie I ditched work left work early for was Les Mis. 10/10 huge fan of the songs and that acting wasn't half bad for folks singing while they work. But then I love theater so I'm partial.

Just watched The Lucky One ... 6/10. Nice storyline but acting seemed a little flat. It still jerked a few tears though.

Looper - 7/10
Could have been better. Plot and storyline started promisingly. Then started to degrade to a point where it becomes another Bruce Willis action movie. Time travel story not done right. Lots of loose ends that just dont really make sense.

When I first saw the preview for that movie, I about spit out my beer at the notion that in the future, time travel will be used by the mob to rub people out. Like cement shoes would suddenly go out of fashion or a simple bullet to the back of the head is just not dramatic enough. I'm sure I am missing something, but from what you're saying, probably not.

Very different film. Quite engaging in a primal way.

The hobbit -9/10.

I loved every inch of it. It was definitely made for me. Although the people I went with threatened to knife me if there was another fight scene so one mark off for Inducing death threats.
