Here's a link to video I took while at Shore Acres for the winter swell that came in. The hardest thing to do is get a sense of scale. The fence at the top is about chest height and sits approximately 60-70 feet above the surface of the water. The swells coming in are 20-25 feet and you can see good waves crashing at about 0:35, 1:05, and 1:35.

Enjoy

i think you did a damn good job showing the scale by including the guy in the shot.

It was funny. I had asked a random stranger to take some pictures with my rig while I stood out there. It's about a 20 second jog from the vantage point to the lookout. As soon as I got back, this guy walks out there and he had the bright yellow jacket which was far better than my black one. I'm glad a few good waves came by while he was standing there. I agree that without a person it is really hard to get a sense of scale.

BTW, from that vantage you really don't get wet. It looks like the wave ought to crash down upon you, but it's far enough away to only mist you with brine.

Wow. I watched that one at 1:05 about a dozen times. That is some powerful surf! Got yourself a nice dust-bunny there at left center too ;-)

even more interesting is that you don't see it coming.
