It does...well, just as much as there is a "debate" on the issue/problem.

Or has debate been redefined as two entrenched opposing sides just shouting their point over and over while exclaiming how ignorant the other side is for not suddenly seeing the light and coming around 180 degrees to their point of view?

That's not a debate, that's just a shouting match, the pursuit of stupid assholes everywhere.

The problem spork, is when someone presents data about countries like Japan and their extremely tight gun control laws and the seemingly lack of homicides by guns, the gun proliferation group still finds a way to dismiss or skew the data. There are countless other countries you could use for examples on gun restrictions and homicide rate, yet somehow all those numbers are meaningless.

This is not to suggest gun restriction is the only course of action to solve this problem, but it should be one of many things to help stop the violence.

How ever you view this debate, (or any other for that matter) arguing that the debate should just go away and both sides be quiet, does nothing. We are at a point where these sporadic massacres are a big enough problem in our country that they will be addressed. If there is a good enough debate, we can come to some point where we can curb the number of Americans killed by guns, without eliminating the legitimate uses and ownership of firearms.
Some of us see guns as idiotic and pointless, some of us see them as neccesary tools and as essential to our notion of liberty, and some of us are hoping for a rational bridge between those two viewpoints. It is an important debate, without an easy solution, and if some or all of us look like horrible people while we look for that solution, I am O.K with that.

All the while alienating from the "debate" anyone not inclined to simply shout their idiocy across the internet while proclaiming anyone who disagrees as a monster...that's not looking for the solution, that's not a debate either. That's just a shouting match.

So this is your contribution? "You are all assholes and should shut up"? Come on you can do better.
Enlighten us, point us to the middle ground. I would love to hear a workable solution.

ROFL..

I'm not honestly convinced that he can do better, since this is really pretty consistently his position on a wide variety of debates.

I would, however, welcome disproof.

I have a suggestion.

Keep your 2nd Amendment... let's control all of the ammunition and reloading equipment, and in time you can use your guns as clubs.

Good idea or what.

I posted a quite serious suggestion some pages back...it evidently got lost in all the shouting.

All you've done in that case is create a de facto circumvention of the 2nd Amendment, which is no more viable or less ridiculous than just banning guns.

the second amendment was an amendment, why can't we just amend the constitution again?

Let's crack down on those pesky people running their mouths too and get rid of the 1st too. Hell, things would go a lot smoother if we just did away with the whole damn thing.

We'd all be locked up in the gulag together, maybe we could roll dice for smokes.

Can you see grey? ... it's somewhere between black and white.

Since you seem to suggest you don't belong to either the "Pro or Anti Gun" groups, surely you have some great recommendations to make on the subject matter.

well it seems the gun advocates would rather do away with that than lose their trusty guns.

I guess its all that important to them.

You didn't hear them in outrage when the Patriot Act was taking away their 1st, 4th, and 5th rights either. I remember hearing a lot of "if you did nothing wrong you have nothing to fear." The irony as an outsider tickles me inside.

Not sure how I feel about this. Newspaper north of New York publishes the names and addresses of all licensed gun owners:
//www.lohud.com/article/20121224/NEWS04/312240045/?nclick_check=1

I think everyone has a right to privacy, and even though this information is public, I dont think it should be consolidated, and made so easy to access as this. But I suppose some would want to balance that with a neighbors right to know. I would want to know if my neighbor had a stockpile of weapons (not that this article/map can indicate the type of gun, or quantity).

A much more important petition, IMO:

I mentioned some practical changes earlier, but the two sides were too busy shouting to notice.
