Good news. Lr 4.3 is released, and *does* include support for the 6D. I'm installing it on my work laptop as I write this, and hopefully I will be in possession of the 6D around the end of next week.

got in hand! now you may ask how is it so here you go!

first let's talk about new things!

1. WIFI is actually a built-in WIFI server, what it means when you turn on WIFI on camera then your Camera behaves like router and use your cell phone and connect to the camera. This allows you to view your CR2 images in the phone and browse them. Also it allows you to take remote photographs means once you have phone connected.

2. GPS, this is where I am having problem for some reason I didn't see GPS running or may be GPS is not able to locate where I am. I will try again tomorrow when driving to work.

3. High ISO noise, this is where I am impressed. I tried upto 25600 ISO and saw very minimal to no noise. Here you can see some photographs.

4. Connected to my Android phone via WIFI and shot a few things. Focus also worked. worked fine.

5. Video quality is awesome and uploaded on Flickr too! Video is chopped by Flickr and definitely NOT looking good as compare to what I see on my notebook. damn!

6. Buttons are a bit different then 50D so initially I had to look around to see what is where.

7. Used 64GB SD card and it says I can take over 1900 photographs.

8. All photographs are using kit lens.

9. Canon DPP, upgraded to latest version and CR2 worked fine with no issues.

10. Lightroom upgraded to 4.3 and tried to open CR2 and worked fine with no issues.

Canon 6D photo and Video set

I will do more tests tomorrow and will share the results!

Update on HDR!

I took HDR and it did shoot couple of photographs but I didn't find them in my CD card, it seems like they were in memory then system processed HDR and kept the HDR and discarded the pre-shots.

There's a camera setting for that. You can keep the source files or just the HDR JPEG.

from when you said you intend to make the purchase, speculation is that the 6D will drop in price forcing the 5d2 down even further. i wouldn't be shocked to see the 5d2 body only selling for $1200-1300 new. Used they have already fallen to that price range.

this is true.
I'm wondering a few things tho.
is the in camera HDR, GPS and Wi-Fi worth it?
I have never used any of these features, so it would be more to learn.

maybe the 5D3 will be down enough to justify purchase?

for me i prefer post process HDR as i am a control freak. GPS i dont even use it on my cell phone, i dont care to geotag my images, wifi probably great f you have an interest to remotely control your camera through your phone or other device. I've seen videos of it in action and the lag would get to me, one of the reason of love my dslr is the minimal shutter lag. YMMV on any of these.

i doubt the 5d3 will fall too much in price without anything to drive it down. the 5d2 is an older body that is being phased out and in order to move them it has to maintain a considerable price below the 6D which is just barely justifying the higher price tag. I think You will be buying at the perfect time.

At this point if I could buy anything it'd be the 6D: for the wi-fi (remote use on iphone is my dream), gps (I like to have my images super organized), and that apparently spectacular low light work (I absolutely love shooting at night). my 550D is actually holding me back at this point to do night work as noise above 400 is like sandpaper, and noise reduction just makes it all soft. can't wait to get my hands on one to try it out (a 6D i mean.)

One more in this Series!

I think this one gives me a good color variation and gives good details. what do you think?

this was at f4.0, 1/40 at ISO 3200

I find the whole "control with your phone" thing really cool too, but I have to wonder if it will end up being one of those features that sounds really cool but ends up not being very practical in everyday use. The only thing I can think of it being useful for off the top of my head is composing a self portrait or a group portrait that you are a part of
12/17/2012 06:21:23 AM · #69
I can easily count many situations (almost always for stupid dpc challenges) where, due to the confines of the room or shooting area, I couldn't compose nor even see the screen of the camera... so is DPC Ribbon = 2000 bucks? :D
but seriously if it works well it'd be awesome

eta: serious typos

I decided that if I'm going to splurge... I'm going with all the bells and whistles my budget will allow. so I'll be picking up the 6D soon. well... in quite a few months. perhaps I can even write it off on taxes next year if I go into business before the end of next year?

I read something on 6D review on amazon and as per that:

******************************************

Reviewer wrote:

***I have to address here, Canon also lock your none-factory battery. You can still use it, but it won't show on the battery meter.
Also the charger will not show you if it is fully charged or not. I left two of my generic batteries on my Canon charger for whole night and it still showed 75% (indicator flashing) charged.
anyone has this problem?

*******************************************

is this true? does this mean you cannot use a third party battery on this camera?
12/19/2012 11:17:33 AM · #74
Ah, that is interesting. Not shocking, though... not enough voltage ;-)
If I had to guess, I'd say that Canon has changed how the camera communicates with the battery. The electronics in the battery may well be different. I suspect that the 3rd-party battery manufacturers will catch up.

ETA: My 6D should be here tomorrow. It will live its life attached to a couple of industrial microscopes.

For those who are looking to use your phone to trigger your camera, you might check out triggertrap. I'm hoping to get one for Christmas and I'll let you know how it works out, but it's certainly cheaper than upgrading to a whole new body. :)
