So who are the dpc members named Mr.Mrs.and CousinScrooge...? Score went from 7.2 to 5.1... wow. This is supposed to be a fun cheer type challenge.... like hugging your boss and having a drink with him even when he's a critical b-tard all year....i thought my entry was a gift to all the members......there shouldn't even be scores in this one.....as far as Im concerned. |

Details: Create a holiday card of you and/or family that you would send out to relatives and friends.
Extra Rules: Extra rules apply to this challenge You may add text/clipart to your entry.
Stats: You have rated 38 of 38 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.9211.
By actual count, I see 18 entries that had people in the composition and 20 that did not.
(soon to be 19 because, as possessor of one of the inanimate entries, I intend to self-DQ)
Like others, I also translated this description to read:
Create a holiday card that represents you and/or family that you would send out to relatives and friends.
It appears the writer of a satisfactory Challenge description should have a PhD in English to please some very literal members.

Too bad that you're self dq-ing over people being DNMC happy on scores.
I just deleted three paragraphs of ranting that i typed because of one line that stuck in my head when i reread it - which is the reply to me of "well you could use that argument for any challenge and in that case why bother having any at all, make everything a free study".
I agree with you 100% that the wording on this one is in bad form for various reasons. I really think it would be great of you to leave your entry in because by self dq-ing you're just proving to them that they're right; and because as long as you like what you've created you should be able to share that with others and take joy from that.
I'm leaving my entry. I love my entry, i think it's one of the best images i've ever put up here even if the score doesn't line up with that notion. I put a lot of time into it, i did several reshoots to get what i really wanted in my head into form, and i've received some fantastic feedback from some people, but ultimately i know that it's what i would (and have) send out to my family and friends, so I meet the challenge description in that regard, and in yours, it's a representation of self, so yes, that is me in my picture of an inanimate object.

I don't normally get that many views after a week, and this is after 48 hours. I did something right.

Seem like this challenge is victim to the D>N>M>C> attack. Some of the comments aren't even well founded, I wouldn't remove an image because the critic may not have even looked closely enough to appreciate the nuances in a submission. The interesting part is though, that there is usually a range of comments and I am finding more and more that the people who "get it"....I get! :-) |

This is the gentle, happiest season of the year, which is why this particular DNMC attack hits home.
Over half the entries in this Challenge are lacking people, and the others with people should, perhaps, be queried
for family tree information to make sure the folks depicted are really 'family'. That is
of course, taking this silliness to its logical extreme.
Ryan I appreciate your line where you say you write "rants" and select the Delete button rather
than the Post button. I've done that many times over the years, and felt better for it.
This time? Well maybe I'm just getting to be a grumpy old lady, but it seemed time to hit the Post button
and draw attention to this ludicrous situation. And dang it, here I am, going to do it again.
:(

I voted as if it was an image for a specific holiday and then judged the photos based on their quality. This site is about photography so it would not be right to bump up scores because it's Christmas.
However, had I noticed that it was supposed to include people, I would have rightly penalized the shots that didn't include them, though I doubt I will revisit any images and apply a -3 penalty.
For those that think this CHALLENGE should be a lovey dovey instead of judged as any other challenge, then next time start a side-challenge thread and share your photos there instead of in a competition. |

I didn't care if people posted pictures of their family, other people's family, or anything else.
I followed this:

That's the criteria I'm using to vote in this challenge.
To me they all meet the challenge.
I have a family but for personal reasons it's best I leave them out of public forums. I figure some people may have simmilar situations or just choose not to post their families. |

If people stuck to the CHALLENGE rules you'd have 10 entries.
This one just wasn't thought out so well.
Once you ask people to put photos of there families on the internet your participation is going to go down atleast 60%.
Do you really want to DQ every shot without a person in it?
Or we can just work around it for this challenge.
I don't care about the score but don't DQ people because they tried to make this challenge work. |

Disagree. Better to have 10 valid entries than just ignore the theme.
But since when has DNMC really affected things here? Voters ignore the theme as much as photographers... we've had clear DNMC entries win ribbons. |

Beating dead horse makes it more tender for grilling. |

As I see it people tried to do their best with a challenge that wasn't thought out so well. |

Its Christmas, it is Christmas card entries, you've all work hard on them and some with family photos. This is definitely a different challenge for they are all beautiful and I think should not be placed. Everybody gets First Place in my book. Congratulations!! Merry Christmas :) |

So, are your scores holding up or is everybody still feeling low from "dnmc-esque" votes at the start? ? |
