I wanted to know which setting you use for raw. "NEF" or "Comp.NEF"

I know the "NEF" setting saves a lot faster but is a larger file size.

According to the manual, "Comp.NEF" images are compressed using a virtually "lossless" algorithm that reduces files size by approximately fifty to sixty percent without affecting image quality. More time is required to process images before they art saved to the memory card.

I did a test with both settings and the files sizes are the same "about 9 megs" although the "Comp.NEF" setting took about 15 seconds to save to the memory card.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

I cant much help you on the why, but I use NEF and not Comp NEF based purely on the write speeds.

If you have the card space, use uncompressed NEF. You can later compress them using Capture on the PC.

i think they contain the same information, but the comp.nef is about half the size (4.5 Mb) ... the trade-off is that it takes really long to write to the card
