the digital verification kit from canon at least as a plug in card to the camera that creates a unique hash or somethignof the the original file which is then saved on the plugin module then they can be compared,

i guess i should have googled it first but

How it works

The kit consists of a dedicated SM (secure mobile) card reader/writer and verification software. When the appropriate function (Personal Function 31) on the EOS-1D Mark II or EOS-1Ds is activated, a code based on the image contents is generated and appended to the image. When the image is viewed, the data verification software determines the code for the image and compares it with the attached code. If the image contents have been manipulated in any way, the codes will not match and the image cannot be verified as the original.

Well, Vesner, the point isn't that it can or can't be done (there's no such thing as a perfect mousetrap), but whether going to all that effort on this particular site, just to have an image validated - which the photog knows to be invalid due to date - is worth it. Getting out of a death penalty? Pretty good reason to fake that sort of stuff.

I already do this with all my vacation photos. I don't change the time on my camera, but when I come home, run it through a script to modify the time to the correct time to when I was on vacation. I just came back from Aruba and they don't follow daylight savings time, so I pumped all my Aruba photos through my script to push the times forward an hour. That way I don't need to change my camera settings at all. Just input the correct time modifier in one script, at any time of my choosing, and fire away. Last year the private key for the D700 was made public, so the verification software for NEF file is rendered useless.
