How bout a challenge, advanced editing, any shot from 2012, but a predetermined criteria, so as not to make it a free study. Kind of like a scavenger hunt through last years shots.

SC would determine the challenge, like indoor portrait or a theme of "love."

One of the more useful features of dpchallenge is the shooting time window. Challenges usually prompt us to get out and take photos. Some retrospective review is okay, but it defeats the imperative of making new photos. I think people learn less by reviewing old stuff. Too much sitting on one's butt looking at a computer screen, rather than being actively applying new and improved skills with a camera and lens. Due to that principle, I oppose this challenge suggestion. Furthermore, there will probably be a Best of 2012 in the next month or so.

Not to mention that there is a side challenge going on where folks are digging through the year's captures.

alright, fine, you have convinced me, its not the best idea I ever had.

Actually, the idea has been suggested before in a slightly different way. The concept was to enter a photo. Then 24 hours before voting begins, the topic is announced and everyone is locked into their entry, but can change the title in order to shoehorn it to the topic.
