I'd like to begin a photoblog. Not really because I think my photography is such an amazing stuff, but simply because when I'd like to publish a reportage I don't wanna always pass through Facebook.
Some advice? |

I hear you on that, I am actually working on something myself. Right now I am setting up a blog just through blogger/blogspot since it is free, I have one through wordpress that I am hosting as well but I wanted to separate portraits from other stuff so I went the free route for the other. may also push more onto 500px. Curious what others are using. |

if you are already paying for a hosted wordpress site, depending on who you're paying, you should be able to host unlimited sites.
i host through bluehost, which gives me that capability. if it's something that requires it's own domain, i'll register the url (which may be anywhere from $2.50 to $27 a year, depending on the registrar). it it's just a matter of having a separate landing page, i'll set up a subdomain - which is free. also, in addition to unlimited websites and subdomains, bluehost offers unlimited storage space.
by doing everything through wordpress, i only had to learn one platform. this makes it very easy to customize something for one site and then copy it to other sites. the other thing about wordpress is the that you are completely unlimited in terms of how you customize your site. if you want to photoblog, there are a bazillion themes for that. if you want to just write, there are themes for that. if you want to run a business, there are themes for that.

I am using bluehost so this is very good to hear. I wasn't certain how hosting several sites would work, I will have to look into that. |

first, log into your bluehost account (something that you should do at least once a month). this is different than logging into your website. if you have problems logging in, you'll need to call customer service at (888) 401-4678, and have the credit card you use to pay for the account handy (for verification).
if you need to add a url, click on domain manager at the top. if you need to manage subdomains, scroll down to the near the bottom and click on the subdomains icon. in addition to their online documentation, you can take advantage of their free chat or phone tech support.
it takes a little coding, but once you get the hang of it, it's not that big a deal to create inkshots.mimsophoto.com and have that redirect to mimsophoto.com/inkshots where you can have a whole site dedicated to your tattoo photography - without having to spend another dime. unless, of course, you wanted to register inkshooter.com (or something similar). then, after registering, you would go through cpanel and scroll down to the site builder section and click on the wordpress icon. at the bottom of the screen that opens up, click the [install] a brand new version and follow the instructions.
yes, there is a learning curve, but once mastered, your options are endless.

My 2 cents... I had a rather popular blog on Blogger. They were experiencing a lot of trouble with spam farms and went in a deleted everything that appeared to be spam and/or anything someone may have reported as spam. There was no warning, no chance to explain or prove you were not such a blog. I cannot conceive of how anything about my Tango blog may have been considered "spam". They just deleted my blog. I tried for weeks to get it back, but they never returned my emails, and there is no way to call them. It took a long time for me to get over that. I'm with Wordpress now, and it's a whole other (classier) ballgame. |

while there is no excuse for how they treated you, it was probably because of the similarity between "tango" and "tanga"...visit tanga.com, a "daily deal" site that is relentless in their pursuit of customers. |

Skip, as "tango" is an immensely popular blogging topic, and as my blog was called Tangri-lá, that explanation seems rather implausible. The fact that it was one-sided, could not be addressed in any way whatsoever, and was so draconian and permanent... Dang! It still burns my butt. Can't ever see endorsing them. |

i was just guessing. sometimes there's no explanation. and, as you have pointed out, it really pays to be dealing with a company where you can actually get someone on the phone when you have a problem (even more so, someone you can understand...). |

I will never again consider ANY website or service where tech and customer support is not at the top of the list. I'd rather save my money in other ways. |
