Wow! Great response thanks everyone I will get things updated shortly. And Alexkc I understand there will be always be a few who don't like the idea of helping before challenges but that is not the sole purpose of this thread. It is also just to set up a list of members who are willing to share thoughts and ideas in their specialty. For instance skip has a lot to offer someone who is wanting to start a business, I can help someone who wants to start into stock, and others may be interested in improving in a certain genre like portraits, studio work, street photography, wildlife or landscapes.

Those of us willing to help give feedback on challenge entries usually only help 1 or 2 people anyway and then we don't vote on those images. So as far as messing up the competition I don't think it makes a big difference.

I will be visiting family for the rest of the week, so feel free to add your name and I will get it on the list when I get back.

The problem I see with this list is that it is going to get buried, and then won't do any good anymore. I wish there was a tab at the top instead of the league tab or like the league tab. Where members could add their names and specialties. Then new comers or even those who have been around awhile could look at it and know who to PM when we need help with a specific question. Make it so members could add their names or take them away on their own. That way someones name won't stay on the list forever if they have moved on.

I also wish the front page forums list was a bit different. It needs to be longer and also have a number system at the bottom so you can click back through previous threads. Sometimes I will see a thread then hit refresh or click on another thread first and it has already been buried. If the forums are busy a thread can get buried in a matter of minutes. Once a thread is buried it is really hard to find you have to know either the author or the category it was put under to find it in the main forum list.

I guess doing stuff to help this site on our own only goes so far. We really need a paid and active web site manager.

Brutal feedback.

Photoshop, camera technicals, glass and other hardware esp. Canon, lighting advice, wildlife photography, geology, construction, gastronomy, astronomy, chemistry, social advice, medical advice, nuclear engineering consulting.

What the hell...put me on the list I can give some constructive critisism...
11/21/2012 03:50:00 PM · #31
Whatever. I use Corel Paintshop Pro X5, Silver efex, Topaz for editing (though I have been known to use GIMP in desperation). Probably most useful for feedback on your shot (for what it is worth - my feedback, not your shot).

put me down, i can offer advice on enterprise/government level unix servers, guitars and all things roadie related, construction, landscaping, paving, 4yr old sons, heavy machinery, oh wait this is photography related... canon geekery, fixing L lenes, persuading female friends to pose nude, boudoir/nude, aperture, cs6, full nik suite, topaz, landscapes, steve and robert have helped me an awful lot, time to pay back the little i know

I'd be more than happy to help out with constructive criticism or processing tips.

I use CS5, Niks CEP/SEP, and Topaz.

I was trying to work out what I can offer in a place where many people are more skilled than I am.

I decided that perhaps my biggest strength is being very patient and a good teacher, suitable for a real beginner.

Another knack I seem to have is the "MacGyver" thing ..... I often come up with solutions that are weird, cheap, home-made, unusual etc.

Since we don't have stickies, how about a friendly bump if you intend to use this great thread. Hopefully it stays on the homepage.

I'll be seeking some help in a bit, so bump.

I'll give this thread a bump and volunteer myself.

I'm a user of Photivo and GIMP, and mostly specialise in taking unintentionally boring photos.

Has this thread generated any requests for help yet?

Important threads are pretty easy to find if you put them on your "Watched Threads" list when you first read them.

For those unfamiliar with this, there's a drop-down list to specify thread mode near the top of each thread's page, and a link to your eatched list near the bottom of the Home page.

Things have finally calmed down around my house, so I will get to adding everyone to the list. Feel free to add your name if you haven't.

I'm hoping it has helped form a few groups, I know the thread Wendy did a couple years ago helped me to get into a great group that really helped me for quite some time.

I personally have started to help a couple people get ready to submit their first 10 photos for approval on shutterstock. As a side note if any of you are ever thinking of starting out in stock make sure to get some help first either by me or some of the other members that do stock on here, or on shutterstocks critique forums. You will surely get rejected your first time around on shutterstock if you don't. Most people around here are good enough to get accepted you just have to start shooting and processing for stock and it is not the same as the way you would process for challenges here.

Cool, I like it.

You can add me for the following: Infrared photography, and an increasing knowledge of macro work past 1:1 with extension tubes, reverse mounted lenses, bellows, focus stacking, etc.

Awesome...
now EVERYONE on the list can help me out!
ideas, PP, lighting, and everything else in between.

OK, now everyone gather together to take
<-------- this girl
under your wing.
and, since you are all feeling so giving, I'll be needing a 5D MKIII along with all the appropriate lenses, flashes, lighting set ups, triggers/remotes, filters... of course a new case to carry all my new gear in.
I will need round trip tickets to all the most exotic places in the world.
oh... an lessons on how to best utilize this new gear.

OK... in all seriousness, I think this thread is a great idea, and as a newbie when I had came, I would have like to had stumbled upon it.
but even now, I will still utilize it. :)
great idea!!!

I can attest to this. Jenn has been a wonderful help so far and has done so much more than I expected. I am on most of the main stock sites including istock but have had 3 misses on shutterstock, this go around with her guidance I feel very good about it and it has helped my thinking and shooting for my other stock sites as well.

I won't be much help with stock for others yet but if you want any help from other stuff please feel free to message me.
