Before there was Photoshop, there was still image manipulation. |

From the time we position the camera, we are manipulating the image.
My preference is for the images that "looks" less manipulated. Ansel Adams is one of my favorites. His darkroom manipulations are legendary. |

Hah!
I'm gonna go!
Personally, I'm happy to take a back seat to the "real" photogs who still screw with film, never shoot color, and think that digital isn't ever going to be what they know.
I have much more fun, am able because of the digital processing to create the actual image that I visualize, and I don't pollute the environment with dangerous chemical waste.
A damn sight cheaper, too!

LOL, Jeb! But for the sake of argument, file lists are not nearly as sexy as a darkroom filled with strung up negative strips :-) |

there is a fantastic photographer Thomas Barbey, I go to his shop every time I'm in Maui. He has some awesome manipulated images and he does it all in the dark room, puts many a PS guru to shame with his work |

manipulation of light is what photography is all about. keeping true to whats in memory of the scene is in my mind a worthy pursuit, but it is not achieved by avoiding all manipulation and it certainly not the only path in photography. I enjoy recreating from memory and i enjoy creating from the imagination. I hope in time, more people see things with a bit more tolerance, but i m not particularly dismayed by the more restrictive school of thought.
thanks for the link! |

$2,000 buys a lot of film... Develop your film in Caffenol and there is no toxic waste! Easy - Peasy |

Caffenol sounds like fun! Can you drink it after you're done using it? :-) |

Can you or would you... I believe you can, but you wouldn't want to. I know at least one person has tasted it. Did not specify pre or post, but was very clear on the vileness of the taste.
Edited cause I can't spell...

Indeed. Given what some people spend on a single high-end DSLR lens, I can buy an Olympus XA2, and buy and process a couple hundred rolls of Superia. |

That's more than enough for a sniper, not so much for a machine gunner. |

Well, that depends. Certainly you will be well prepped for a colonoscopy the next day, but if you use potassium bromide rather than table salt you may sleep, or seize, through your spelunking appointment. |

Even so, I think it's less toxic than that Monster crap. |
