OK, so how many people actually think that their picture will win a ribbon when you submit it for a challenge?
I always do!
In the back of my mind anyway.
If anyone asked me, I'd say that I had no chance.
But if I was being honest, then I am holding out some hope for it.
But, then the votes start coming in and I start thinking-"Uh Oh, this isn't looking good"
And then the comments start coming and I start to think-"of course, that's what I should have done, how stupid was I to think that I had a chance!"

Just wonder if I was an egotistical freak or if others thought along the same lines?

No, I do not think that you are the only one! ;)

What, there are other people submitting to this? I always think I'm gonna win :-D

Truthfully, not always, but do always hope for a score in the 6's. Lately, I've done well just to stay in the 5's.

This time for the proportion challenge I thought I had a really great idea and a decent image as well. But alas, the voting population doesn't concur. But then, I think this one had/has voters scratching their heads once again as to what does and does not fit the challenge; I think the voting overall got skewed by a couple of threads on that topic. But what the hay. :)

I almost always know how I'll finish within .2 or so. I submit for the fun of having a score to check and getting feedback on a new photo.

Of course. One always hopes. But there are photos that I've submitted that I thought were strong contenders for ribbons but they usually fall with a big thud ... and when they receive scores below 5, the pain is quite excruciating.

You always think that your readers have the same vision and understanding as you do, but apparently, they have a better vision than what you have. I have however, some pictures that the readers concurred with what I wanted to convey ... and when that happens, it's the sweetest thing. I don't mind then if I don't score high, as long as one person understood my photograph ... I'm content.

I'd say I've submitted maybe four or five photos which I thought had a legitimate chance for at leat a top-ten finish; some of which finished above six, and some in the fours. But then, I've probably had as many pictures which I thought were just OK and which got significantly higher scores than I expected, so it can work the other way as well.

I have become totally enraptured by photography, especially since going digital. But I am very new . . . .I have spent the last couple days viewing all the great work here on this site and I know that I am no where near being in the same league. So I would probably go into shock if I got a very good score!!!!!! I will say though, that I honestly enjoy looking at many of my own shots -- some are just truly beautiful or intriguing to me, or at the very least, a step closer to being able to create what I have seen here. There seems to be a place for everyone here, no matter what their skill level as of present, and I appreciate that!

I never did at first and still don't most of the time but with each submission goes a little bit of hope that it will do well. The problem is that I look at the shot and think, "THIS IS THE ONE!" but then the challenge opens and I see the others and think, "DANG! No way I'm even going to be close on this one."

And the weird part is that on the proportion I thought it would tank but it's doing very well, go figure!

Still not a ribbon but heading to be my best score yet

Some images I've submitted I thought I would win with, others I've entered hoping to do well but recognising that they are not the usual style of winning DPC shots. Of course there are always some surprises both in how well and how badly they do. One of my problems is thinking that X is going to do great because it's better than Y, which scored very well, but finding that other people dont like X as much as Y because the score is a lot worse.
