So I never really buy Twinkies or Ho-Ho's or Ding Dongs but once I heard Hostess was going out of business I suddenly had to have some.....Like everyone else in America apparently cuz every store I went to was sold out! Had to get the Safeway version of the pastries. Anyway, I don't know if it's too regional but thought it might be fun to have a "Ode to Hostess" challenge.

Makes me think of the teachers unions here in Canada. FYI, teachers in the USA are paid a pittance, but in Canada they are paid a royal ransom, yet they are always striking and protesting via 'work-to-rule'.

Anyway, I will miss Twinkies even though I never eat them. They are an icon, as demonstrated in the movie, Zombieland.

I just had a Twinkie, Ho Ho and a Cupcake for breakfast, the off brand ones but it still tasted good. I been spending the past few days looking at home made Twinkie recipes on line.

:-) They are good for the sweet tooth:-) Hopefully you get something more substantial than sugary foods in your belly soon otherwise 2-3 hours later you are going to have the jitters and energy crash that you will not believe. I once made the mistake of just having a continental breakfast of a danish and coffee and had a nasty case of jitters and energy crash.

Twinkies and Snowball treats make me think of my childhood so I'm a little sad that they are going bankrupt.

In Santa Cruz (California) there's a rather wonderful amusement park on the beach.

I wonder what will replace this delicacy?

We have a Hostess outlet down the street... 50% off... a little like heaven on earth! No Twinkies though!

If you can find, you can rake in some cash... //abcnews.go.com/Business/hostess-twinkies-sell-60-box-ebay/story?id=17739110#.UKfr--TEbSg

Being from the UK i don't think i have ever seen a Twinkie let alone tasted one. The first thing that comes to mind when i hear about them is the 'Twinkie' defense of Dan White in the murder case of Harvey Milk and George Moscone and i first heard about that in the reworked lyrics of the Dead Kennedy's cover of The Clash song 'I Fought The Law'. So, yea, lets have the challenge but i might go off on a tangent.

Too late -- my husband said that Target official has no hostess products on the shelves now.

I've had a Twinkie, didn't like the taste of it. Never tried a ding-dong...the name isn't exactly appealing ;-)

Sugar, pure sugar, yet sweeter. Ugh... Not much taste to it, all it does is glue your tongue to the roof of your mouth from all the sugar in it.

Ugh. You're not missing out on anything in my opinion (sorry to all those who were somehow trained in their childhood to cope with it).

1 down, 50 or so to go.

Good riddance IMO.

I read that Canada is unaffected by the Hostess shut down in the USA. This looks like an opportunity to me.

you always have to be such a contrarian! :)

Anyway, I'm not trying to argue the benefits of a non-processed food diet, just trying to propose an interesting challenge.

And I might be able to come up with something horrible for it. ;)

Perhaps a new mask is in order??

In Cory's case, I'd be worried what he might find the Twinkie to be a good fit for. And it's not his face.
