This is the type of crap that has me so incredibly disgusted the last two election cycles.
I'm tired of the childish attitudes of those who, when they lose, want to take their toys and leave. What's worse, is they want to make sure they take and break everyone's toys and spread hatred in the process.
This is supposed to be a democracy with two sides trying to work together to come up with the best system possible. But now we have the Donald Trumps who are telling the republicans to shut down the government.
We are in a worldwide recession. This isn't the time to shut down, but to put your money where you mouth is and actually try to get something accomplished instead of trying to stick it to the other guy.
Somebody had to win this election. It used to be that the other side was smart enough to realize that actually working within the system to do some good would look good and help you 4 years from now. I was hoping that, whoever lost the election would be smart enough to realize that this is bigger than one election and that it's a time to get off their asses and get something accomplished. We're in a bad state, but it's not as bad as greece, spain, many places in Europe, and we can't live in a bubble.
I'm posting and running, because I'm finding all of these threads way too depressing. I will be accused of ignoring people's arguments -- but I still have hope. And I don't think I need to read anymore arguments of why all hope is now lost.
Good luck to everyone who posts here. I would hope it could be filled with optimism instead of hate. I still think that the majority of the people who are elected really would like to do good. I'm also hoping that they have seen what hasn't worked over the last 4 years. And maybe, just maybe, there can be people who can rise above all this.

Nice to hear one more voice arguing for tribal war: to give up on the middle ground being anything more than a battlefield; for the dissolution of democracy, and the end of the American electoral system; so that they can save their notion of America, even if they have to destroy the country and all it's institutions to win.

My thoughts exactly. Is it any wonder the country is so polarized when idiots like that have an audience who actually believe that "stuff"?
I've been a registered Republican all my life but the party has been hijacked by extremists like this - sad. :-( |

So did I, when I originally read it. I though it was fantastic parody. Then I realized that they guy is actually serious. Apparently he's a former Ron Paul aide. It seems that they may have had a falling out because Ron Paul wasn't extreme enough.
The truly interesting thing about his ideas (especially if you start reading discussion in the comments) is that the kind of political system he is in favor of does exist in some parts of the world, but those places tend to be governed by warlords. |

That's just incredible. Especially the continuation, as a dialogue, in the comments... What part of "democracy" don't these people understand? Democracy has never been all-or-nothing, it's about the art of compromise, the willingness to compromise. |

people need to realize that fox news isn't a news outlet, its a 24 commentary network thats designed to incite its viewers so they keep coming back and pinging the ratings board. I read an interview with Sean Hannity once where he basically admitted while he is a conservative, he isn't truly a right wing nutcase, he only plays one on tv.
people watch this crap (and msnbc has the same garbage) and the start repeating what they hear instead of forming their own ideas and then it becomes a case of who case scream the loudest and throw worst insult.
i'm pretty sure you can find a direct corollary to this off the wall hatriolic vitriol and the rise of Hannity, Coulter, Rush, etc. and the left wing nutjob counter parts they spawned.
Its no wonder the politicians are acting this way, their constituents are doing the same thing! |

I don't think anything is "POLARIZED". Reality is more "NORMALIZED". People are falling for the media headlines, which are tooled to attract views.
Here... I made a graph to make it easier to understand:-
Don't let the 2.5% gun-toting Jesus-freaks get you down.
Dont' let the 2.5% pot-smoking welfare leaches get you down.
Don't even let the 44% Marginally Fucktarded get you down.
We are 51% Pretty Decent People.

But in relation to "express your hatred, shame and outright disgust for anyone who voted Democrat"; you thought that part of the piece was reasonable and that's what you try to do when you meet such people here on DPC (if you can find them, though you don't believe there are many)?
Please correct me if I have misunderstood. |

I hear from folks on the left (code pink, the guys in the "medical" marijuana business, ect.) how much they are angered at Obama. It is not too surprising given how diverse his constituency was in the first election, but what surprises me is that the only voices that are heard objecting to Obama on the popular news come from the right.
I think if the folks on the right who think Obama is a socialist radical could hear the condemnation of his administration from real socialist radicals, real peace advocates, real anti wall street agitators, fans of a single payer healthcare system, ect. ect. ect, they might be shocked into seeing the Obama administration a bit more as I see it, as a centrist administration.
But the far left has a very small voice in the media landscape of America, while the far right is massively over represented.
