So, I think I have the dpi thingy worked out for the most part for prints. However, when I upload to my portfolio the dpi decreases from what it is on PS&. What's up with that.
I figured wither one of two things are happening.
1. When I convert from TIFF (240 dpi) to Jpeg, the res is decreasing because of compression. If so, how can I prevent this & what is the ratio that it decreases?
2. When I upload to my portfolio a print size, the dpi decreases for some reason. Why is this so & how can I avoid it.
Many thanks in advance for my ongoing struggles with this.

Do you mean resolution as in pixel measurements or as in clarity and sharpness and overall visual quality?
If the latter, it can be due to
1. as you said, JPEG compression degradation
2. resampling of thumbnail or preview images for on-line display (also introduces another level of lossy recompression)
3. monitor/browser display issues |

Thanks for posting GeneralE.
I don't understand 2 & 3. In 2 are you referring to save to web feature somehow changes the original pic even when you are copying it?
How does monitor/browsers effect dpi (yeah, that's what I meant! curses! my bad) as it pertains to clarity?

No, I thought you were talking about how it looks online after you upload a printable attachment to a portfolio image.
If you are talking about a file still on your hard drive, you are probably looking mainly at detail loss due to compression.
If you are using "save for web" it possibly changes the ppi (from 240 to 72) without changing the total number of pixels so that it will display correctly in a browser. |

Gonna try it. Will report back!
Thanks again!
