I was about to say the same thing. I'd also love to know what his other disqualified photo was.
I wonder whether they would have passed under the advanced ruleset on DPC.

Sweet memories, I used to live near Lindisfarne, when I was younger we would deliberately miss the last low tide to be able to get off the island because we knew the pub would stay open all night, usually used to wake up freezing in a field with some sheep.
I think fare is fare, too much editing in a true photo competition shouldn't be allowed, the guidelines however should have been defined in advance.

Yah......can't say as the offerings were much good if that's the runner-up.
I loved the beached boats, too.

I think probably yes, unless he has removed something of significance.
I went looking through the rules and found the section he's fallen foul of:

11) Digital adjustments.
Digital adjustments, including High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging techniques and the joining together of multiple frames, are allowed in all categories. However, for images entered in Classic view, Living the view and Urban view, the integrity of the subject must be maintained and the making of physical changes to the landscape is not permitted (removing fences, moving trees, stripping in sky from another image etc). The organisers reserve the right to disqualify any image that they feel lacks authenticity due to over-manipulation. The judges will allow more latitude in the ‘Your view’ category, which aims to encourage originality and conceptual thinking. Please see How to enter for further details.

So there's significant authority for judges to arbitrary reject what they don't like.
But the main point is that the rules are documented and fairly clear.

yes. the housing flats look like iron filings. (y'all should try photoshopping them: they line up like obedient little soldiers when you press the magnify buttons). |
