I'm not quite understanding the point. The fish were being sent to be killed and eaten anyway. Dead fish either way. I guess they would have died a faster and less painful death at the fish market must be the difference?

I wonder how many PETA members are vegetarian or vegan?

That just goes to prove that you need to get your meat and fish at the market where no animals are hurt! :-)

You'd be wrong. Best number I've seen is that 63% of PETA members self-identify as vegan or vegetarian. It's possible to be FOR the ethical treatment of animals and still eat them.

Kinda, but that goes against their various campaigns, too. (Not to say some PETA members don't agree with you, but PETA [the organization] is pretty clear with respect to how it feels about the issue and how that is not possible).
For instance, I have a sneaking suspicion this move is part of their push for the public to equate eating fish with eating their cat or their dog, or better yet, to liken eating fish to domestic violence and aggravated assault and robbery

Of course, how many people strictly adhere to their religious declarations with zero wandering?

Hmm... seems they could do more for their cause by not looking so consistently foolish. Oh PETA... but you know, the funny thing about memorials, any memorial, is they aren't for the person, they're already dead. They are for those that wish to remember and pay respects. If you think of it that way why is it any more or less valid than any other memorial?

Because we would have to put up a zillion memorials at fish markets, butcher shops, roadkill spots, etc. And what about flies, ants, cockroaches - do they not feel pain?

As soon as I set up my "Fish & Critter Memorials" business I will be all for this idea.

I see what this is all about...

You are just mad someone might get the jump on your new business venture. ;)

(PS I could make the same argument for all the people that have died... who gets a memorial and who doesn't and why?)

The ones who get a memorial are typically the ones that someone cared enough about. Also, there are various interpretations of what a memorial is. :)
