I finally made the leap. I waited and waited and pulled the trigger today because I had the cash on hand. I'm really hoping I notice a difference in the area of bokeh and ISO performance. I shoot strictly portraits and work a lot with shallow DOF.
Will I notice? lol.
Also, if anyone is interested in buying a 7D that's in mint condition or a Canon 17-55 2.8 IS also in mint condition please let me know. I take very good care of my equipment. |

Great time to make the leap, IMO. The price on the 5Dii is really attractive, and there's no telling how much longer it will be available new. With the comparatively high price of the 5Diii, the Mkii is really attractive. |

Great decision. |

Glad to hear. While the ISO performance on the 7D is okay for what I used it for, I can't say I was impressed. I don't think I was ever comfortable going over 1000. And the DOF just isn't clean or creamy -- nothing compared to images I've seen out of the 5D series. |

What are you asking for the 7D? Christmas is coming. |

Enjoy. I like shooting it at 3200/6400. |

Moving from a 60D to a 5dii recently i think you will love it. I was simply floored by the IQ the 5dii produces.
the ISO is a considerable improvement, but i still cant believe how much sharper my primes look on the 5dii. You are going to love that camera.

I am considering upgrading from my Canon T2i, and I was thinking either the 7D or the 5DII. My daughter also uses my camera to shoot high school sports for an area sports website, and I was using her need to shoot at higher ISO's as part of my justification to upgrade. I was leaning toward the 5DII, but it sounds like the 7D might be better for the sports (e.g., better focusing technology and faster frame rate).
Any suggestions / feedback would be welcomed. |

Correct on both counts; crisper focusing and a better frame rate. Also, the crop factor makes your 70-300mm the equivalent of 480mm at the long end, which is a real plus. 300mm isn't very long on a FF camera... |

I went from a 30D to a 7D (loved the focusing and crop) to a 5DII. The IQ on the 5DII is simply stunning, sometimes I have to pinch myself and ask if I really took some of the shots I have with it. If you do not NEED it for sports, it is a superb camera that does not disappoint. |

The 7D I had was total junk above 400iso ,I use it for knocking in nails now, best thing it can do.
JulietNN had lots of trouble with hers at high iso too, but maybe it depends on the copy you get.
I would NEVER recommend one. |

I shoot at 1600 ISO with my 7D when I need to and get some pretty decent shots. You can get rid of the noise in post. I know you'd rather not have to get rid of the noise in post, but I'm still getting very workable shots.

I'm planning on upgrading.
7D is more budget friendly than the mark 5Dii.

ahem, Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II
to add ISO noise is highly subjective, what passes as acceptable at 1600 to one is unacceptable to another.
