pretty sure I've decided on the 60D.
should do what I want, and with the CLP, the price ain't bad!

60d is pretty decent and a good choice,

but i recommend looking at the t4i if just for its new STM feature/lowlight sensitivity.

edit: forgot to mention that other than those two and maybe touch screen options, 60d is better in a lota regards and cheaper -.-

I'll warn you that moving from P+S video to DSLR video can be a challenge. Very few bodies have auto focus while shooting video, and even the ones that do have lots of compromises. The DOF is much smaller on a DSLR so accurate focus is much more important.

It can take a while to get used to manually follow focusing a running kid. For family videos this can be annoying.

That said the quality is going to be a lot better then a P+S, assuming you can get a good focus.

One thing that is invaluable for Canon is Magic Lantern. It will zebra strip the live view with what is in focus. Without this it is nearly impossible to tell what is sharpest in that little live view screen.

And, as mentioned above, it's the only way to do video on the 50D. :)

I'd love a new body, this one's kinda worn out after 45 years of solid use...*sigh*

Oh, you're talking camera bodies!! Set me up for a D600 and nobody gets hurt :-)
