is this what we'd call a supermarket, as in a big store, as opposed to independent retailers?

Your local Tesco or Marks&Sparks would be what we call supermarkets, though I wouldn't think M&S counts as grocery store as I never saw fresh produce being sold in the one in Ottawa. A greengrocer should count for something too. And again fwiw I'm probably going to use an independent retailer as opposed to a big chain store.

Drat, drat, drat, drat, drat!!!

I just had such a fun idea, but it's 3.5 hours away. :(

There's nothing that says the photo has to be taken inside the store. In the US, and most countries, a photograph taken on a public sidewalk is perfectly legal. Storefronts are full of possibilities.

Here's some inspiration (not my work).

Agreed. Just one more bit of helpful advice - it never hurts to ask. The worst that can be said is 'no' and you don't get the shot. I have had a fun idea on reserve for this but with mine it requires permission so I hope to get it but will not be crestfallen if the answer is no.

I'm going to see what shots I can sneak. I already know that the stores around here will frown on it. But there really is nothing posted anywhere that forbids it. I may be too much of a goody two shoes and won't scale fences and trespass on abandoned property. But I think I can get the nerve to try to take photos in a store. :)

That's it!! The dark side of Wendy is coming out! ;)

... You can do it.

I thought taking photos of whales would be a great idea... so I went to Australia and took some. How easy was that you say?...very, a tad expensive by downright easy.

Uh oh. Maybe I had better start collecting bail money and printing up FREE WENDY T-shirts.

+1 HA!

i took quite a few photos of Spam in my local supermarket for the previous Monty Python challenge.. i tried first with my phone, but the photos were terrible. so i went back with my D90... i did ask permission for the second attempt, and they were like "OK, whatever"... got a lot of weird looks, but it seemed to be no problem

I captured an image at a grocery store/convenience store yesterday. 1 minute to take some photos. 3 minutes to upload to DPC. Done deal. I don't expect much in the way of score. My effort is commensurate with the caliber of the challenge idea. I'm sure there will be lots of great images submitted.
