That photo would score a solid 5 here.

...not a chance.

it would depend on the challenge entered. for example, on a free study... no way. but if it was a "photograph someone taking a picture" challenge... perhaps... but I still doubt it.
the blogger was right... it lacks that wow factor. its very snapshot-ish. the exposure is off... its flat, dull, bland... the tower IS tilted (which would produce lower votes).

Lucky for that photographer... they won an expedition.

that photographer would never make it here, if that's what they find as "good photography".

just my two cents

Bresson wouldn't do well here, either.

Well he could learn a lot from this place. Just think of all the turds he'd be able to save once he learned all about polishing...

Forget the blogger's comments. I understand we could read all sorts symbolism in the image. But in an international competition with hundreds, probably thousands of entries, this was the "best" one...?

What a snotshoot!

I think y'all should read what bjoern wrote and have another look. Get some soul.

The issue is not that the image does not have merits, or is devoid of interest. The question is whether it deserves to have won an international photography contest

I am surely missing something.

Or perhaps I am :-)

So there's this contest. There's loads of rules and thing and instructions about how and what you enter and there's some sort of system for judging a winner. It's like a big, gawky algorithm where you feed in the problem and out comes the result. So you want us to make statements of worthiness?

I find it a refreshing choice. Good for them.

And as much as I love a good snapshot, this does not strike me as a snapshot at all. It's actually a very thoughtful composition with lots to explore. Clearly, though, it's not for the instant gratification majority -- those who will drool over the same foggy scenes of the Golden Gate Bridge till the proverbial cows come home.

Sorry that was Nixon.

Have you ever seen a Steve McCurry's exhibition? I've visited it in April in Rome. Those photos have soul, not this one. They not only captured wonderful moments, expressions etc., but they are visually beautiful. This guy was not Robert Capa in Normandy. In that case we can say that a blurry photo is amazing, not here.

There's no difference between a photo or a snapshot. They are the same thing. What differentiates them? Only an opinion.

you take a photo and then you MAKE A PICTURE. then it is ART, your art anyway, your truth.
