I have suggested this before in a post that included other suggestions, so I wanted to give this one its own post.
I have said it before and I will continue to say it... if you have challenges based on movies, books, music, poems, etc... you will have better participation. Very few people get inspired by a "pet rock" (no offense to whomever suggested that), but every person with a soul has been inspired/moved by a song, movie or book. Even if they tend to turn into pseudo free studies they still bring higher participation which is better for the site.
Challenge:
Create an image based on/inspired by the famous poem; She Walk in Beauty by Lord Byron
Expert Editing
She Walks in Beauty
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

Well, because you managed to hit both expert editing, and a nebulous free study topic idea. I personally think DPC has gone too far away from the photography, and I find that two or so free studies a month is really quite enough. |
