Ok.

So, first a question: I have the super clamp, but my cold shoe / umbrella holders don't fit the "standard stud".. So, wtf. What cold shoes do I need? Clearly my cowboy studio ones are made for smaller studs, as they won't even fit on the Manfrotto ones. Will the Frio ones fit?

Next, feel free to critique this harshly. Interested in your thoughts..

If possible, please get us some pictures or links as to what you're talking about when you say your umbrella holders don't fit standard studs. I m not sure i get what you mean. I haven't used it for my umbrellas yet, but its my understanding that its specifically built for jobs like that. Ofcourse, i m not familiar with the cowboy brand, i dont see any reason their stuff should be too different, but i dont see a reason it may not be either.

As for the Frio, thats specifically for those hotshoe flashes, Here's what i mean: LINk . useful for my softbox mount.

As for the image, I like it.

Small suggestions:
maybe a reflector or hair light Camera- right but up high? In post you can just lift the shadows up a bit too. The eye is too dark, the hair needs a bit more definition.

I'ld avoid that line just because most of the other background is pretty uniform-(in post-content aware, patch, etc in post i spose)

Shine is a tad strong, fixes would be bigger softer lightsource, dry up skin right before shoot and shoot in a cool environment, possibly powder as well- in post (shineoff - or brush in some surrounding skin color)

someone mentioned wrinkles by grip, excellent suggestion, i hadn't thought to mention that. On the same note, varying degrees of angle be it top down and twist of neck produce more/less of a wrinkle in that area. Depending on the intent, you may want to experiment with that.

Feel free to PM me if you want me to share all the little things i use for my work for the sake of inspiration. Really only a few of them are necessary, but they're there to help speed things up and enhance.

Wow guys thanks so much!

As far as the super clamp stud, here's what I eventually figured out.

I have no idea wtf the standard stud is supposed to fit. Probably studio lights or some such.

So, here is what I bought with the standard stud.

Here is what I bought today, in the hope that these will fit on it.

I'll definitely try some tips to improve the shots - I'm still really just starting to try this, so there's tons to screw up and learn. ;)

I bought two of these 5-in-1 reflectors along with stands for them. They're essential in my opinion. There are better products out there, but these were the cheapest catchalls I could find.

Yeah, I need to add in some reflector stands for sure.

What do you guys use to attach a reflector to a light stand?

Is Model Mayhem or Two-Tooth Terri on strike or something? The only scab willing to cross the picket was yourself?

edit - The hue is different on both side of the face. The right side looks illuminated with gels or halogens whereas the left side doesn't. I'd either tone down the gel colour on the one side or reflect more of it on the left to balance it out.

Yep. Actually, I just wanted to make sure the equipment was ugly proofed, couldn't find anyone more hideous on such short notice. ;)

Good news is I only broke one lens, after that I stopped trying to smile. :D

I have good luck with the cheap impact air cushion stands - < $40 B&H Video Linkie

No idea, but I'll try to answer when I get them tomorrow. ;)

Took me longer than expected, but...

Yes, they wake up the 430EZ just fine.

I have found that if I let everything fall asleep then just go MF and quick fire, the triggers don't respond before the camera shoots the first frame. Second frame they're on and working fine though.

I love these triggers. I started with 2, went to 4, and should have 6 by Saturday. Incredible versatility.
