Your photo may contain up to 3 (or whatever is determined) sequential photos, special rules - the long side of the photo may be 1200 pixels for submission.

so do we have to create a panorama from three photos or will one be allowed to simply crop a single image a wide view?

you also need special rule to allow us to merge three images into one, that isnt allowed under the advanced ruleset.

I would think you could use one pic. I was also thinking the crop ratio has to at least be 2:1 if not 3:1.

The merging of pics would be a special rule for this.

Yes please!
When the Advanced Rules were modified to include multiple source images, panoramas were excluded specifically so that special challenges could be run for them. It's never happened. And it is high time.

Another exception to the rules could be 400 or 500kb max file size to be able to show the detail.

Not really... some of the most creative panos are multi-row or even a single vertical column.

...or 1:2 or 1:3! :-)

I would suggest that the maximum dimensions be 1600w x 800h pixels so we can get a 2:1 shot within the current vertical limit, and increase the file size to 500 or 600KB ...

Yep!
600kB would be required, since the amount of data scales with the area, and the area is doubled.

What about panoramic sweep photos?

Bumping ....

Challenge: Panorama
Special Rules: You may combine up to ten images to make a single scene. You may not extract and combine individual objects to create "composite" images.
Maximum Image Size: 1600px wide x 800px high x 600KB

I believe this is now possible under the expert editing rule that says that you can combine multiple photographs to create your entry & with 1200 pixels this would look really neat. I have been away from the site for a while so I don't know if this challenge has been done but if we hasn't it, I would be in.

I've updated the description to:

You may stitch as many photos together as necessary to create single seamless photograph; HDR processing is allowed, subject to the usual restrictions regarding scene changes.

Special rules: Maximum pixel dimensions 1200W x 800H x 700KB
