Rich and naked doesn't go over so well in some most countries. |
...and I was not suggesting naked.
During my travels, I have seen people that had so much luggage that one would think they were moving.
I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, one travel bag is more than enough...if I need more I will buy it.

Just taking your concept to the extreme ;)
I agree with you...generally, if I can't carry it all myself in one small bag, it's too much. |

Interesting reading my question now after so much time... as it happened, we did end up living for 4 years in Indonesia and 2 years in Mexico... and we also spent some time in India, Malaysia, Thailand, etc. My wife just got a job in Yemen but I can't go as her organisation has said that family members are not allowed to live there as well, so I'm driving around Europe at the moment looking for somewhere nice to live. I've spent the last month in and near Venice, but I'm not convinced about Italy, so I'm going to take a ferry to Spain soon to check out Barcelona. I've just arrived in Sweden by plane an hour ago though to photograph a guitar festival for this week, so my head is really spinning at the moment!
I never did go and photograph edgy dangerous things, but I've really realised that what interests me as a photographer is the celebratory and the uplifting... there's too much bad news in the media IMO!

You should check Northern Italy...It's very different from the south. |

Well, that WAS an adventure, Bob!!!
Just returned (today, in fact) from Australia, where we did the Oodnadata Track for half of 6 weeks, then up to Darwin, Kunanarra (in the Kimberlies), Kakadu, then back down. The Track was the best - unlike anything I've seen/done. Very desolate and magnificent. To do it right would have taken at least 2 months, preferably 3. |

BobsterLobster, terrific that this thread got rejuvenated. I remember when you started your odyssey all those years ago, and wonderful that you are continuing your explorations.
I see now that you started - and continued - a blog of of your adventures. This is going to begin my own vicarious adventure of following them. I'm really pleased that Ozzie reopened this thread.
And tanguera, outside of our neighbors of Canada and Mexico, the first place I visited when I started really traveling was the other side of the world: Australia. Pretty nice folk, aren't they! |
