I believe a while ago there was a thread about what lens to use in a trip to Antartica. Wasn't it nickyb that went there? I have tried to search for it, with no luck.
A friend of mine is going there in December, via some countries in South America. She was wanting to know what size lens would work best, she has a SONY A100 camera and was thinking of using a teleconverter with what she has already. (What that is, I do not know)
Any advice would be appreciated! Also, I'd like to send her a link to any photos taken there so she can get an idea of what to expect. |

Bit of a nebulous question.
What lens would work best? Why, the most expensive glass possible of course.
Teleconverter? Meh, they aren't particularly good for quality.
As for what's there - not much really, some research stations, and some drilling, etc. Really vast area, very sparse human presence. What does she want to shoot? Why's she going? Where is she going? |

There was whole thread posted about going to Antartica which I tried to find, which is why I posted here as I usually do a search but no luck...
There are tour groups that go to Antartica. I suppose if one has travelled to a few countries in the world, this might be a different place to visit? One would see different animals there I suppose?

If you're really not great with spelling, Google can help..
The OP was misspelling Antarctica as Antartica. Which returns this, just enough of a common error to cause someone to think the article isn't there.
Google on the other hand: Gives us this beautiful result set
Just search for (site:dpchallenge.com/forum.php search-terms-go-here)
This allows you to utilize the power of Google while searching DPChallenge, or any site.

For someone that used to win the spelling bees in elementary school, I completely messed up on the spelling of Antarctica..I even looked at it twice to be sure I spelt it right, nope! :-)
Thanks to all that helped. |

I'm betting they never put Antarctica on the list. ;)
Just to be clear, I'm not at all calling you out... There's a reason I use Google to search DPC. :)
Frankly the search here is rudimentary, but functional... Google is just so much more powerful.

Part of the problem probably lies in a long history of politicians who call for opening up oil exploration in the "Artic" region of the country ... possibly the same ones who think we should build more "nucular" power plants ... ;-) |

They should have to tell the Polar Bears in person, preferably after a good seal blubber rubdown... |
