What are other's thoughts in regard to timing and all the holidays approaching? |
Holidays make the timing difficult, but it'd be a bummer to lose this momentum. It's the end of September. To put this off until January we'd end up debating it from every angle all over again.
One idea, though probably too much unnecessary extra work, is to kick off an introductory competition. PREVENSERDOME, set to wrap up before the holidays. You'd find out a lot about the handicapping system, how scoring is working, etc., and fine tune it for full-blown VENSERDOME to kick off after the new year.
A preflight of this would also serve to get the word out that the main event was coming, and that might get some past DC participants back in the mix as well.
Just a thought. Basically, I understand the holiday timing issue, but I think you've got to strike while the iron's hot.

I had the same thought, but came to roughly the same conclusion. But I still like it.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of PREVENSERDOME, but I think I'll wait until the new year. I understand doing this while there's momentum, the timing isn't something I actually thought about until it looked like this could actually fly. The month of December will be crazy over here as well. My wife goes back to work after a year off from maternity leave, my parents are in town for two weeks, I'll be taking a vacation to someplace warm, that my commitment could be non-existent for some period of time.
I know you should do this will people are talking about it, but I'd rather have a well oiled machine than a square wheel. I think kinks and hiccups are more detrimental in the long run. Also, with the number of PMs I've received, I don't think participation is going to wane if we wait until after the holidays.

I am excited about the competition and seeing the outcome of the tweaks you are making to past competitions. Now or start of the new year -- I will be happy to participate whenever. Thanks for taking the bull by the horns, Venser.

No, you didn't miss anything.
Since I'm going to be doing this in the new year, I simply made a mock challenge, only for myself, to observe. Maybe I should omit that part in my response. I just want to see how it's going to work in reality without worrying about it actually working. Or having real competing users as live guinea pigs. |

Venser - if you say "after the new year" then that's the way it must and should be.
Sign-ups in January, and league play in February?
Or?
Somehow, we need to keep the momentum going.
Target dates will help with that. |

It only makes sense. I'll be spread extremely thin in December. I have to assume others will be also.
Tentative schedule will be first three weeks of January to sign up, league starting the last week of that month. |

I vote for live guinea pigs.
We like being experimented upon -- Art can tell you that. :)

Ok, I'm very late to this party....but for what it is worth (and not a whole lot)...my vote is for 8 teammates...this way if someone can't participate one wk it doesn't kill the scores...
